Talk:XY Black Star Promos (TCG)

Is it really useful to put in the staff pre-release cards? They're not listed like this for the older (BW and back) promo cards, and in my opinion it's just looking a bit confusing. Alternate prints of cards can no longer be ignored. We're trying to find a meaningful way that lists alternate prints of the cards released. The way they are listed on set pages (See Plasma Freeze for an example) doesn't exactly work on the promotional lists: there isn't a default print that you pull from packs that trumps all other later released promotional versions. The promotional cards start as promotional versions. As for why it isn't on previous pages... this is a relatively new development that hasn't been implemented in anywhere other than this page. Most TCG information here is done by only a few users, which forces most additions/changes to be done in waves during the time those users are free. I've gotten positive feedback from the fact that we are listing all the promotional prints of Black Star Promos, so if you could elaborate on why exactly you find it confusing, we should be able to work something out that both lessens that feeling, but still lists all the promotional cards in a fair and meaningful way. ^Maverick_Nate 18:10, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

While I like the way how it's handled on pages like the Plasma Freeze one you mentioned, I agree that's not the way to go here. I think confusing isn't the right word here, it's more that I feel like it's less oversee-able, I don't like how you get the same number in the set twice. This might be the collector in me that want to be able to complete a set by simply owning every number in it, but the card don't differ much. A different solution might be adding this information in the promotion field. Simply stating there there is a regular print for attending the event and a Staff print for being on staff during said event. I think this is how you guys handled the different version of holo printings on BW promo's as well (not entirely sure though). But yeah it's a matter of style, that you have to decide on one way or another. On a side matter, if any of these kind of things need to be changed over a cluster of articles were can I find that? I tried to combine what we both want in a way I think looks better. It's visible below. One of my reasons for changing it this way in the first place was to pluck information out of the potentially lengthy promotion column. There are certainly promotions that will take more than a few words to explain sometimes (moreso on the Japanese side than English), so I think it's a bit necessary.

Does that lessen your concerns with the template? ...I also wanted to mention that us staff are currently in the middle of making the main project pages better for find things that need to be accomplished on the encyclopedia. Love the layout! Definitly solves the problem I had with it, this makes it easy to see there are 2 version and still keeps the single mention of that number. Late last night I found you're to-do list as well, but decided to leave it at that time since I was quite tired, I'll look into it more now.
