Roaming IV glitch

I think this glitch should be moved to the list of minor glitches. Pokedex493 21:48, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Hmm elaborate --Pokemaster97 21:53, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
Well, it's just a minor glitch, not a big one, so it shouldn't have its own page. Pokedex493 22:02, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
I also think that this should be on the list of minor glitches. There are more major glitches than this on the list. This page is much to short to be by itself. --SnorlaxMonster 22:30, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
I agree that It should be moved to it- it is very minor. Snorlax is also right- it is a short article, much too short to be alone. MOVE IT! Luxraychu 20:13, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
The page 'List of minor glitches' is now a mere redirect. Shouldn't it be moved to 'List of glitches in Generation III'? TyraniThrone 11:47, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Shiny Shadow Pokémon Glitch

Someone please give some more information on this glitch. Is it true, can it be fixed, anything. I was going to reset for shiny Legendary Beasts in Colosseum so I could have them in Gen III, but if they are not going to be shiny after I catch them there is no point in it. PkmnChmp5 15:05, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Well, you can just save right before encountering them, and reset after you catch them. Catch, then check if they're Shiny; if not, reset. --SnorlaxMonster 15:49, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
Yep, that would work. Just need to hope and pray I can catch them every encounter before they knock themselves out using struggle. PkmnChmp5 20:50, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Glitch explained.--Kaphotics 07:56, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Someone just added that a Pokémon's Ability can change between when it is the opponent's and after it has been snagged. This would mean that the personality value does change between being the opponent's and player's, since Ability is not affected by OT. If true, this would also mean that checking the opponent's ID rather than the player's isn't the only reason some Pokémon can change from Shiny to non-Shiny and vice versa. --SnorlaxMonster 11:26, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
Not exactly. Ability isn't correlated with the actual PID in the GameCube games. They generate the ability separate and store only the PID for re-encounters; this requires the Ability to be re-generated. --Kaphotics (talk) 21:34, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

Dewford Gym Glitch

False. It says it's removed in Emerald, but it's not. I checked Ruby and Emerald... Click. Marked +-+-+ 14:13, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

According to the article, the glitch is that "the wall behind the right-hand statue in Dewford Gym" does it... that is the left statue, that's what it's supposed to do. Bluesun 14:17, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
Aw... my bad. >_> Marked +-+-+ 14:35, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Poké Flute

I tested it on sleeping Pidgey (since both Snorlax[e]s on overworld are screwed), and after summoning Help button, the music was muted until the message informing about awaking sleeping Pokémon (where it changed from Poké Flute to wild battle) Marked +-+-+ 13:19, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

IV Glitch

The IV glitch affects how fast the stats (except HP) grows, right? Would it also affect the chances of the Pokémon being shiny? ^^I^ rides camels… | love 'em. (T^LK) 03:01, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

IVs aren't really related to growth rate, just the individual-based value that is used to determine each of its stats. In Gen III, Shininess is determined by personality value, not IVs, so it won't affect it. --SnorlaxMonster 12:32, 21 March 2012 (UTC)

A glitch from FRLG

In FireRed and LeafGreen, whenever a NPC interacts the player character for a battle, the player does not turn around to face the NPC. In the other games, the player would do that. Also, a NPC (other than Team Rocket) would say a false statement to him/her. Both of those sound glitchy to me, but should they be added in as actual glitches? PattyMan 17:00, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

Could be homage to the original Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow where the character would not turn to the opponent in those games either. Frozen Fennec 17:19, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
What do you mean by a false statement? Can you give an example? --SnorlaxMonster 12:09, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Two examples are that the player character was accused of eavesdropping a conversation on Route 6 even though the two NPCs that accused the player character weren't saying anything and a Bird Keeper tells the protagonist to stay off his turf on Route 18 when it's not his turf to begin with. PattyMan 17:48, 15 September 2012 (UTC)

Odd Glitch

In my Pokémon Ruby game, there were a couple of times that a Trapinch showed up while I was in the sand baths. Is this considered a glitch? G50 17:41, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

Sand baths? You mean the hot tub and sand beds from Lavaridge Town? Think you could try doing it again to see if it happens? I've never had that happen to me before in Pokemon Ruby. Frozen Fennec 15:27, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

Time Travel

I randomly have this issue in which this message is displayed after pressing start after the fighting sequence in emerald: The internal battery has run dry. The game can be played. However, clock based events will no longer occur. Then all of sudden I found the way of temporarly fixing it, each time it appears (the message of course), I fix it, one day I beated my cousin at his secret base saved the game turned it off to have lunch, well as you might know the message reappeared again 77 well fixed it in 5min then talked accidently again to my cousin as I saved in front of him and asked me to battle him again, then I was like uhuuuuh I'm a fricken' pioneer!!!!!!

Some of the things i can exploit are:

Berrys: I can grow Razz Berrys in a pinch (actually planting the when the message appears then fixing it) and of course its a big help in cultivating Leppa and Lum berrys which need more time.

Secret Base: I can fight my friends in their secret base just doing it almost instantly, (and it helps a lot, since when we mixed records, he had in his team 5 Hariyama who only know Knock off and Belly Drum from Victory Road and 1 Exploud Lv.41 that only know Howl and Screech).

T.V. Commercials (Debatable): Haven't tried it, but, I suppose that maybe seeing the commercial, waiting for the message to appear and fixing it might do the trick.

Berry Giveaways: The people who giveaway berrys all around Hoenn 1 time a day will give me a berry each time I use it.

Srgnt Dylan (talk) 20:44, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

You aren't really a pioneer, all that happened is your battery ran dry. This means that time based events get screwed up. This is technically intended behavior. ZeroLinkYoshi (talk) 11:35, 13 March 2014 (UTC)

Abandoned Ship Glitch

In Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald (all tested), if you go to the Abandoned Ship, enter it, then use a cheat or a save editor to remove Surf from the Pokemon that know it, and then use an Escape Rope, you end up on the water outside in Surf mode, despite not having anyone who knows Surf. If you go back on land and try to Surf, it doesn't work. This can only be done with the use of cheats or a save editor, so does this qualify as a glitch, i.e. should it be on this page? SirVer (talk) 05:06, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

This page (not the talk page) only deals with glitches that can happen in Pokémon games without the use of an external/cheating device. Thus, since your glitch was achieved by use of a cheats or a save editor, it would not be able to be added to the page. Still, it is rather peculiar why you would Escape Rope from the Abandoned Ship and be outside surfing when there is walkable, non surfing water directly in front of the Abandoned Ship. Seafloor Cavern Glitch?

In Emerald (I don't know about the others), in Seafloor Cavern, if you go through the door/hole in the Entrance, it takes you to Room 1, and if you walk back through the door, it takes you back to the Entrance. But if you walk through the door at the bottom of Room 3, it takes you to the Entrance, and if you walk through the door in the Entrance, it takes you to Room 1. Is this a glitch? -- Dmorlana (talk) 04:02, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

The article Seafloor Cavern doesn't list this as regularly happening, so yes, it is probably a glitch. --NOBODY (talk) 13:42, 5 June 2013 (UTC)
Does this happen with all Pokémon Emerald games? I never purposely used any cheat/hack on my game, so unless I accidentally did something to glitch the game it should happen with everyone else. If it does happen to everyone else, should it be added to the page? -- Dmorlana (talk) 19:41, 5 June 2013 (UTC)
It happens in Ruby and Sapphire too. I think it's not a glitch but instead a weird feature. The door at the bottom of Room 3 is probably supposed to be a one way shortcut/exit. --It's Funktastic~!話してください 20:00, 5 June 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I think so too because I just found that the door in the middle of Room 5 goes back to the Entrance as well. -- Dmorlana (talk) 23:24, 5 June 2013 (UTC)
Reminds me of the Pokémon Mansion. It seems to just be a one-way shortcut with little in-universe explanation.--SnorlaxMonster 07:04, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

French Fire Red

During my Joey Challenge in french Fire Red, I tried to perform this little glitch, because money is always needed, but when I lost and talked to the grunt again, he was just saying his after-battle quote. Now I wonder if it's supposed to not work in other languages.

Apparently they also fixed this trick to get to famous truck, because I can't move when I'm entering boat. Character just goes to the boat, watches it go away and returns to Vermillion.

And the main question is - they fixed it in other languages than English? Quilveor (talk) 10:29, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

Mystery Glitches?

I had a weird mystery glitch years ago when I had ruby version. I think was in a stage3 cool-type pokemon contest. all the NPC pokemon used nervous stat moves in every round so I mine didn't attack once. After the final round It bumped me up to 1st place. I can't find any history online of anyone getting the same glitch and probably people are going to rant about how its fake or that I used a cheating device. I was about 10 years old back then. I traded in my GBA and some of my cartridges in for pearl version and a used DS system so I don't have my cartridges any more. I knew nothing about hacking or glitches so I thought that the game did it because I never had a chance to preform due to the NPC attacks. Has anyone had the same glitch happen to them or had a mystery glitch that they couldn't find on the internet? I'll see if the same thing can be repeated in an emulator and I'll post the video if it does work.

Is it possible that you outscored them all in the first round (where they rank you by stats) and that everyone else just got cruddy scores in the second round, so that your first score was enough to beat their second scores? How'd your opponents score in the appeals? Yamiidenryuu (talk) 15:05, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Vital Throw Accuracy in Orre

There seems to be uncertainty about whether the Vital Throw accuracy glitch exists in the Gamecube games. I can confirm that the very least, the glitch is present in English copies of Colosseum. I can't check in XD, so someone else will need to do that. -- Umbee (talk) 23:54, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

I just checked, Vital Throw is shown with an accuracy of 100 in XD. Nairbnroh (talk) 13:36, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

Time Flute Experience Gain

I'm replaying Colosseum, and my Hitmontop was taking way too long to purify, so I used a Time Flute. Even though it had participated in several battles without fainting, it gained 0 experience points after being purified. Is this intended behavior of the Time Flute, or an oversight/glitch? -- Umbee (talk) 20:43, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

It does not seem to be part of the behavior of the Time Flute, since I am coming up with no mentions of this. Since I do not have Colosseum and cannot test this, could you explain what stage of purification the Hitmontop was at? I ask since the Purification articles states the following: "40% Purified: The Shadow Pokémon's Nature is revealed (though it was determined when the Pokémon was first encountered), and the Pokémon will also start receiving experience points in battle, though this is not mentioned to the player or counted towards a level-up until the purification process is completed." --Super goku (talk) 00:38, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
In all my years of playing Colosseum, I never realized experience wasn't gained until after a certain point. That would explain it, then, because Hitmontop hadn't even had one bar emptied. Thanks. -- Umbee (talk) 03:47, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

Emerald bag scrolling glitch?

So a little birdy told me of a glitch in Emerald. Relevant portion:

  • "There's a glitch where if you're scrolling through any of your items in any pocket, the game will freeze and crash rather spectacularly, and this happens a lot. A lot a lot. I've had to constantly save even more than I usually do just in case digging for a potion too quickly confuses the damn thing."

I don't have an Emerald cartridge to test and see if it's an actual glitch and not an emulator problem, though the person who posted it claims they encountered it on the cartridge version as well. Anyone heard of this or can anyone test it? Yamiidenryuu (talk) 05:59, 25 December 2014 (UTC)

If a person cannot give details about how to reliably recreate a bug, it can be very hard for anyone else to verify. Everyone who's ever played Emerald has absolutely scrolled the Bag, some probably "fast". I know I've never encountered such a bug. Tiddlywinks (talk) 08:04, 25 December 2014 (UTC)
That is true. It seems like the sort of thing that would have been noticed, so I'm guessing they misremembered encountering it on the cartridge and it's some sort of emulator error. If they say anything else about it I'll add it here, but I guess it's nothing. Yamiidenryuu (talk) 16:14, 25 December 2014 (UTC)

Trainer encounter oversight- minor glitch or intentional reference?

If this happened in any other game, I'd chalk it up to an oversight, no problem, but we're talking FR/LG here. The remakes of the games where the player did not turn to face the opposing Trainer. Honestly, I noticed this right away, but I never thought of it as a glitch, merely a clever little reference to the originals. - unsigned comment from Missingno. Master (talkcontribs) 18:00, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

I removed it. I don't think there's any reason to assume that it's anything but a simple reference to the Gen 1 games. --It's Funktastic~!話してください 18:06, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
It sure looks like a bug to me. SatoMew 18:34, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
You're going to need more reasoning than that. There is nothing that indicates that this is a glitch or bug. Unless you have something clearly showing that this is not how the games were programmed to do, I see no reason to assume that this anything more than a reference to the games FRLG are remakes of. --It's Funktastic~!話してください 18:56, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
The whole game is a reference to the original but that doesn't mean mechanics like this have to be the same. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to ride the bicycle inside gates, yet you can (ironically enough, you can't in DP). All other games released before and after don't have this behavior, Generation I notwithstanding. SatoMew 19:36, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
Well, someone could check the lines of code that handle a player turning toward the trainer. However, this seems intentional since FIrered and Leafgreen were built off of Ruby and Sapphire. It could be an oversight, but it would require a check of the code before stating it is not intentional. --Super goku (talk) 07:25, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

man at Registeel place

I 'm not sure if you can call it a "glitch", it's rather a mistake which wasn't corrected. When you open the doors to the regis cave there is an obviously visible entrance at route 120 to Registeel, but the man keeps saying that he sees no entrance. He is probably blind.. Speeddeoxys (talk) 17:12, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

It is probably an error. If you can reproduce this error, can you upload a video in Youtube and show the video link? It may be possible this is a glitch. --~~ThePokémonFanSince1995~~-- 08:01, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
It's not an error, it's just lazy at worst. I'm sure that character is not the only person who says dumb things. Tiddlywinks (talk) 12:58, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
Yeah there is another person who say that. It is a Psychic in Generation V, where you will solve a puzzle to get to a Regi chamber. --~~ThePokémonFanSince1995~~-- 00:43, 11 April 2015 (UTC)

XD purification glitch?

I think I might have found a way to do the purification glitch from Colosseum, in XD. If you go into the Pokemon Center in Gateon Port and then go over to the table with the man sitting at it to the left, there are certain angles at which you can get your character to keep walking and the screen will shake, just like you used to be able to do in Agate village in Colosseum. I tried it for a few minutes and I'm pretty sure that it made my purifications progress a bit, could someone help me test this? (also if this is something really obvious that somebody else has already found let me know... I haven't ever really participated on Bulbapedia before so I'm not very familiar with it) - unsigned comment from Kinsara (talkcontribs)

Well, I just figured out that the purification glitch is possible in a lot of areas in Agate town. I found at least 3 more. I was testing them on an emulator in XD. I can make a video as proof and try it out on an actual gamecube and record it if necessary. From the three areas I've found so far it seems to have something to do with the angle. Since Agate town has a large number of cliffs with weird angles it should be possible to do it a lot of places there. Yascob (talk) 10:19, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Basically, my current thoughts on how the purification glitch are as follows. If the angle is too steep the game tells the character to stop moving. If the angle is too flat or convex in nature then the character will slide away (probably into a corner where he can't move). However if the angle is near flat but slightly concave then it won't stop him from walking and the character will slide to hit one wall as he is pushed by the angle and when he hits the other wall it will push him back infinitely thus letting the character walk infinitely. That knowledge in mind it should be possible to do the purification glitch anywhere there's a proper angle assuming my theory is correct. Yascob (talk) 10:28, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Snagging switching glitch

There needs to be done some research on this, as I have problems on replicating it. As far as I remember, the Shadow Pokemon was snagged as soon as it appeared, while Evice switched out his other Pokemon because it was about to fall asleep because of Yawn. This tactic did not work later in Snagem Hideout on Rosso's Quilava; although it took me few turns to set it up as the Grumpig refused to cooperate by using Bounce (both appeared on first turn of battle). Also, he still had 3 non-Shadow left while Evice had 2 non-Shadow left.Eridanus (talk) 16:37, 11 July 2015 (UTC) Nevermind, replicated it. Still need to check whether it works in XD. Eridanus (talk) 17:32, 12 July 2015 (UTC)

Possible data glitch when migrating or trading any pokemon obtained via the unused Pokemon Colosseum Bonus Disc "Agate" Celebi event in International copies (including hacked event pokemon created via Action Replay codes to replace the first Celebi.)

Hello to all. I may have discovered 2 glitches in Pokemon Colosseum, and XD, which relate to both the Game of Origin and Region bytes, and the Character encoding/Region bytes of Japanese Colosseum/XD pokemon. Now on to the details.

I first want to say that the only pokemon the Game of Origin byte glitch applies to are "GBA-created" Colosseum Event Pokemon (in my case, a forced-shiny, but otherwise valid PokePakku Mew, generated by a long series of Action Replay or Ocarina codes. They are from Ralf at GC-forever.com, and made for NTSC-U or PAL copies, and force the game to load an always-usable, scrapped version of the Japanese Pokemon Colosseum Bonus Disc's Events with the same requirements as the original disc, but with the added option of swapping the Celebi for a user-selected event, which is chosen via more codes, such as my Mew's, while allowing the user to choose the region of region-free events like the "Berry Glitch Fix Zigzagoon", and determine shininess at will (which is calculated legitimately by removing the anti-shiny check, or forcing it), regardless of actual lock on Pokemon or events.)

These events are directly injected into Colosseum's save file, but when the GCI file is viewed, it indicates the Pokemon is from a set game, which may depend on the specimen used for the original Pokemon used to generate the code/PKM. The Mew in particular, when generated twice, and viewed in PkmGCtools immediately after generation in the actual game of origin, Colosseum, both showed their Origin Game flag as a Japanese Sapphire copy internally. Next comes the actual glitch.

I later traded my mew into my only GBA Pokemon game, an English Pokemon Ruby, and saw no change, due to the limit stat viewer in Gen 3. My end goal was to make a legal/semi-legit Faraway Island Shiny Mew. The glitch showed when I Pal-Parked the Mew into my HeartGold copy. When I viewed the Mew in HG, it showed the same origin game as the game it was Pal-Parked from, which was Hoenn (Ruby), when the original Genned Pokemon showed Hoenn (Sapphire). I was hoping somebody would test this with the GCN-GBA traded Pokemon going to an English Emerald instead of English Ruby, with everything else set up the same, before Pal-Parking to English HeartGold, and seeing if the Game Of Origin flag matches the flag of the GBA game used to Pal Park from Colosseum (in this experiment, English Emerald) that the Cheated-in, English-Colosseum-created, PokePakku Mew was traded into.

My optional challenge is to compare the English-Colosseum-generated, migrated shiny Mew to a shiny Faraway Island Mew that is legitimate, but was traded to an English Emerald before Pal-Parking to an English HeartGold. Save Reflashing is allowed, and the real shiny mew CAN be RNG'ed, but it has to originate from a Japanese Emerald, (optionally with a Cheated ticket (so nothing is wasted) ), and it has to be link traded to an English Emerald, before fully legality checking the Genned Mew to see if it passes all migrations.

On the same Memory Card Raw file as that Colosseum save file, I have a Pokemon Box: Ruby and Sapphire save file, that, upon examination in Trigger's PC, and on Console, shows Japanese Pokemon with garbled, 5-ish character names, which I know either came from a Japanese Colosseum via GBA link trade, or have passed through said copy, but instead of showing Japanese Characters in their name, show Latin-1 Garbage text, and may have status condition bugs. Most of them have the OT of HaxAras, and are perfectly Harmless. His Gyrados, however, when PKHEX imported, has no moves in ORAS. Sorry about the cheats, but the oversight exists.Stgiga (talk) 19:36, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

If you are using cheats or generally any unapproved tools at any step of the process, any "glitch" that happens thereafter could be your "fault" rather than the game's. If you can entirely replicate the behavior with physical games used entirely as they are intended to be used, then it might be a glitch. Tiddlywinks (talk) 19:48, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

Potential glitch/different rule in Pokémon Colosseum: Thunder missed despite Lightningrod

I was taking on Cipher Admin Ein just now, in Realgam Tower. I'm underleveled but got through with Beasts and luck. At some point, I was taking on his Manectric and Crobat with my Raikou and another Pokémon. I think I commanded Raikou to attack Crobat with Thunder. Manectric of course absorbed this attack via Lightningrod, but I was happy with that too as it was low enough for a not-very-effective knockout and my other Pokémon's attack could have knocked it out anyway. However, Thunder missed. On Bulbapedia, Lightningrod is stated to guarantee hits, with no exception for Colosseum. I wonder if this is actually untrue in Colosseum? I may be mistaken, but I feel quite sure that I saw the in-battle text prompt of Lightningrod being activated, followed immediately by the Attack Missed, and it definitely wasn't his Rhydon. If this is easy for anyone to investigate, please do. Colintron (talk) 03:40, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

Testing out the "trainer approach oversights" glitch in all version of Ruby and Sapphire- so far, only happens in the English versions

A bit of context: I've been playing the Japanese 1.0 version of Pokémon Ruby because I want to transfer the Regi dolls to Pokémon Emerald to achieve an absolute 100% save file in that game (I know they are event decorations and legally not obtainable anymore, but my Emerald save file doesn't have to know that).

Right now I'm in Mauville City and remembering some glitch showcase videos of Ruby and Sapphire, I tried to replicate the "trainer walking over the ledge" bug with the Aroma Lady in the route 118 east of the city, but I couldn't replicate it. Because of that, I first assumed that the bug only happens in all the Western versions of Ruby and Sapphire, so I was going to edit the page Hoenn_Route_118#Trivia right away, but then I thought it would be kinda weird that the bug doesn't happen in the Japanese version but it does in any other version, so I search for all versions of Pokémon Ruby just to mess around with this bug and I can conclude what the title says: it only happens in the English versions. I said "so far" because I was able to check it with the Aroma Lady in the route 118 only. I know there are other two trainers in these games who can cause a similar bug, so I will verify if this conclusion is accurate when I can.

Also, I can say that the bug doesn't happen in the Spanish versions not because the Aroma Lady has her visual range changed. In fact, she has the exact same as in the Japanese and the rest of European versions, so I'm erasing that out of the article. I think it only happens in the English versions because game developers changed the visual range of these and many other trainers for regional difficulty adjustments. I noticed this while playing the English 1.2 version of Pokémon Sapphire (and if you're wondering why I've been playing this game too is because of Lunatone), where trainers tend to have shorter visual range. I doubt something like that is a version difference between Ruby and Sapphire, it sould be a regional difference.

Anyways, I think this needs to be verified. If someone has a non-English copy of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, please try to replicate this bug and reply this so we can come to a better conclusion. Qubincy (talk) 04:06, 1 September 2020 (UTC)

Stuck Cheri Bug

This is sorta incorrect. Basically when you trade with Colosseum/XD it writes a 01 byte to Emerald's RAM where the berry growth data for that patch on Route 118 is stored, specifically to where that plant's growth stage is stored. So because it only has that bit of data, it doesn't know which berry to grow (cheri is just the default) therfor it doesn't know when to go up a growth stage and it just stays as is. Also to note, if the player already has a berry growing there it'll revert the growth stage of whatever berry is growing back to 1 and start the growing cycle again.
