Confirmed Gender

Seriously, even if its gender was confirmed in the dub, why would it be different in the Japanese version? - unsigned comment from GT4GTR (talkcontribs)

The excuse is "Well the dub can screw up". Not a good excuse since everyone knows it's a girl anyway, but bleh. There are just some people you can't convince of Pikachu's masculinity. TTEchidna 02:00, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, we still haven't had firm Word-Of-God on Pikachu either way, have we? Buneary, OTOH, should be fairly undeniable at this point. - Cassius335 13:15, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
Hey, umm guys, Didn't Dawn's bio on the Japanese 10th movie site confirm that her Buneary is a female? I mean, I thought they confirmed that when they were discussing the Poster.
Weedle Mchairybug 02:59, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, considering Ash's Oshawott is male and falls in love with almost every female Pokémon he meets (and briefly fell in love with Buneary when he first saw her), I'd say that confirms Buneary to be female. MrWii000 (talk) 05:08, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

don't trust the dub

The dub said Brock's mother died, and she came back in a Chronicles episode. They said that the Team Rocket duo in Legend of Thunder was male and female, while they were both male in the original.

Sure, the evidence does point to Buneary being female, but I'll wait for it to be confirmed in the Japanese version first. - unsigned comment from Monkeyjb1988 (talkcontribs)

Brock's mother: OK, that one's truly an error. Why does the dub refer to Flint's ***** as Brock's birth mother when Brock's real birth mother is supposed to be dead, and never even go as far as to provide an explaination?
Attila and Hun: And what evidence says the dub changed Hun's gender? People have searched the dub for the telltale sign, and there wasn't one. Nobody ever referred to Hun by specific gender, meaning it can't be proven that 4Kids actually changed Hun's gender. For all we know, Hun's still male in the dub, they just cast oddly.
As far as Buneary goes, while the Japanese version hasn't fully proven what the dub says, there's been nothing in the Japanese version outright disproving what the dub says. Sure, there's been mistakes in the dub before, but given that we haven't seen anything from Japan to contradict the dub, there's no reason to believe the dub is outright wrong. Saying not to trust the dub on anything is like saying not to trust Viz on their Pokémon Special translations and to use Chuang Yi for everything Viz put out. --Shiningpikablu252 17:58, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
4Kids vs PUSA. 4Kids may have gotten kickass voices, but donuts don't make themselves. TTEchidna 18:20, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
Ok, it WAS confirmed in the Japanese version that Buneary was female. the official 10th movie website mentioned her Buneary as being female. Ask Serebiiforums if you don't believe me. Also, to Shiningpikablu252, they DID mention Hun was a guy (Kudo said "Those men" in regards to Atilla and Hun.). Weedle Mchairybug 12:27, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
How stupid is this debate? Buneary is a girl!!!!!!!Pikazilla 02:17, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Wait...

What happened to Buneary's vest?Nintendofan146B 23:36, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Kenji-girl says that Buneary doesn't wear it enough. Read her talk page.--Tavisource 23:40, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
Holy unexpected plot twist Bat Man! Buneary appears again, and is wearing the vest! She has appeared in only a few episodes since the Wallace Cup (shortly before which, she received the vest) and wears it in every episode where she has more than a cameo apperance. I think that by now, we should accept that it is a major part of Buneary's character. Until she evolves anyway... Aura-Knight 01:13, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Jump Kick

When did it used jump kick? --kebs. 14:02, 21 October 2008 (UTC) I think it was bounce - unsigned comment from Pokemonboy3000 (talkcontribs)

Could it perhaps me mentioned?

Buneary is able to learn Attract meaning if she does, she could use it on Pikachu. Could this be mentioned here or rather on the LagomorphShipping trivia? SD13 Simpsondude13>SD13 Talk 09:44, 15 December 2008 (UTC) SD13 Simpsondude13>SD13 Talk 09:44, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

...everything can learn Attract. Just because Bun-hun can learn it by breeding (like Ice Beam could've been passed down) doesn't mean much special... besides she's the one attracted! TTEchidna 09:50, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Evolve?

In the "future events preview" that aired after DP171 today, there was also a piece of footage showing a Lopunny attacking Zoey's Mismagius. Could this possibly be Dawn's Buneary evolved? Dilophosaurus Rex 17:45, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Evidence shows that the Lopunny belongs to Nando. And the preview also showed Dawn's Buneary participating the the GF. So no. --ケンジガール 01:24, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Trivia

"Dawn's Buneary seems to be a parallel to May's Beautifly:

Both were used in a different kind of Pokémon Contest (Beautifly in the PokéRinger competition and Buneary in the Hearthome Collection).

Honestly, do we need this? It's not a similarity, it's a difference... I could go on all day about difference they have... "Both were caught at different locations!".GlaceonFanGal 17:43, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

Moves

It says that Buneary and Croagunk are the only anime Pokémon currently owned by a main character not to have learned any moves sense their capture. But Gible hasn't either. ----Zewis (29) 17:10, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

What about Draco Meteor? Gible didn't know Draco Meteor before DP156, he learned it after the gang encounters Wilma. So, it doesn't count because it did learned a new move in that episode. ♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 18:33, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

But since it was captured (not seen, not befriended, officially captured in a Pokeball), it has not learned a new move. Flyingtypefan 03:29, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

Images

Not to nag, but I don't see why we have so many of them, especially the one that says "Wearing a vest made by Johanna" (I mean, she's already wearing it in the one in the infobox). I'd go ahead and delete at least two of them, but I figure that I'd get input from others first. So...any thoughts? GamerGeek 22:44, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Now that they've been removed, doesn't this article look really bare? I'm not saying all we need to do is add some pictures back, we really need to put more content into the History section too. All these tiny paragraphs just look ugly, Best Wishes Pokémon have their major appearances covered in much greater detail then most :/ Diamond Lanturn CodeName: 05308 01:00, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
The thing is, the images that were removed were pointless, especially the one where it says it's wearing the vest, since she already is in the infobox. As for the others, I'll admit they were cute, but they didn't serve any real purpose, they just cluttered up the article.
As for the History section, you could always add to it yourself you know. GamerGeek 01:45, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

Gender should be changed to "unknown"

Not too long ago I requested a source to verify when it was confirmed to be female. Apparently it was confirmed in a website that no longer exists. This most certainly makes the source invalid and without a valid source there is no way of confirming its gender, all information must be verifiable and without proof it should in my view be changed to "unknown". I would like to know if anyone agrees with me.Ratchet and Clank 1995 (talk) 09:56, 29 October 2016 (UTC)

@Hikaru Wazana What do you mean?Ratchet and Clank 1995 (talk) 12:30, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
Buneary is female. FACT.
She wears feminine attire throughout her time in the anime, she has a relationship with Pikachu (one reportedly Pokémon MALE, for the record), Dawn always treated her like a Pokémon female. Some point in anime today showed that she was male?
Please only see the images that are in the article itself(Buneary with dress, Buneary and Pikachu, Buneary with cheerleader clothes, etc).
Not only that, the whole article is with feminine pronouns, moving this will have to rectify the entire article. Enough is enough the nonsense that is in Ash's Charizard article.--Hikaru Wazana (talk) 11:52, 29 October 2016 (UTC)]]
Please note well that we do NOT assume any Pokemon's gender based solely on their attire and actions. It must be stated or it must be confirmed by Attract.
(And the pronouns in the article are worth nothing if no original source can be found anyway.) Tiddlywinks (talk) 14:10, 29 October 2016 (UTC)

Buneary_and_Pikachu.png

Again, Pikachu is a MALE POKÉMON. If there is anything in the anime to justify the doubts and create the possibility that Buneary is in fact male, I would like to know, in that case I close here. Otherwise, it is an argument completely pointless. Buneary is female. In DP039(Steamboat Wiilies), Buneary, Happiny and Aipom (the last two confirmed as females) dress on their own with female outfits. As the two Pokémon are females and remain doubts for Buneary? This discussion does not make sense. --Hikaru Wazana (talk) 15:29, 29 October 2016 (UTC)]]

The long and short of it is: DO. NOT. Assume. Any discussion of any sort of "hints" is entirely pointless.
As I said: it must either be stated or confirmed through Attract. Period.
Thank you. Tiddlywinks (talk) 14:48, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
What you call "hints" I call "evidence." But whatever, will wonder Buneary and Pikachu are gay, no? Indeed, who will be the next to have doubts about the gender, Ash and James, Jesse or Serena?I stopped here in this stupid discussion.--Hikaru Wazana (talk) 16:14, 29 October 2016 (UTC)]]
It is adamantly not our policy to say that Pokemon or characters cannot be gay or cannot wear clothes that their sex is not "supposed" to wear. That is why we have the policy stated above.
Also, please use ":" for discussion indentation, not "*". Tiddlywinks (talk) 16:30, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
The whole history of Buneary turned around to show that she is a female Pokémon. To say that there is any doubt about this is to contradict what own anime revealed(There are nearly 50 episodes with evidence to prove it and zero episodes to justify or creates the possibility of the contrary.).

And I was being sarcastic, at all in 900 episodes of the anime did not exist a single evidence that there is something like "Gay Pokemon". As I said before, if there is any evidence to have a doubt about it I want to know, why should I have passed unnoticed--Hikaru Wazana (talk) 16:38, 29 October 2016 (UTC)]]

We don't assume genders based off behavioral patterns, a guy can act like a girl. Have you ever seen or met a feminine male? And we will not assume that the writer will or won't add gay characters into the show regardless of the laws in Japan, it is not our call to make.--ForceFire 16:49, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
As I said, zero evidence. They know that she is a female Pokémon, but they don't want back down. As I said just watch Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.--Hikaru Wazana (talk) 16:59, 29 October 2016 (UTC)]]
So what? It behaving like a girl means nothing. Until it's gender is explicitly stated or it gets hit by Attract/Cute Charm, its gender stays at unknown. End of discussion.--ForceFire 17:05, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
Beautiful idea of democracy. For me, if someone starts a discussion had at least to have evidence to show otherwise, but prefer to go against what the anime itself established and not accept debate even though my point does not require that I do any kind of proof. The anime shows that I am right, but do as you please, I am not an administrator, then I have no voice even. I close here.--Hikaru Wazana (talk) 16:38, 29 October 2016 (UTC)]]

Buneary's gender should be confirmed Female all around because of how she was crushing on Pikachu, who's confirmed to be Male, and how Oshawott (also confirmed Male by getting a dosage of Iris's Emolga's Attract) was crushing on Buneary; ergo, Buneary should be confirmed Female all around the anime.
Gallade User 20:44, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

As per above, no. The act of attraction is not the same thing as the move attract. Just because it acts all flirty, doesn't mean it can't be a guy. Until it actually gets hit with attract, or its gender is explicitly revealed, it stays at unknown.--ForceFire 04:30, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
Even under the Hearthome Collection page, which I stumbled upon today, Buneary's gender was shown to be Female.
Gallade User 16:06, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
Buneary should be considered to be Female at this point. Ash's Oshawott was shown to have a crush on her when he first met her, but she went for Pikachu, who had crushed on him, a Male, from the moment Buneary has been under Dawn's ownership. Another thing to be noted, as on Georgia's page, her Vanilluxe was confirmed to be Female, and mentions Oshawott, a Male, following her around, quote "...with Ash's Oshawott following due to having a crush on her." I think this is further proof Buneary is confirmed to be Female universally, not just in the dub, especially since both Pikachu and Oshawott were confirmed to be Male universally throughout all versions of the anime.
Gallade User 16:06, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
Again, no, that's not how that works. It doesn't matter if other Pokemon in this love dodecahedron had their gender confirmed, it doesn't mean Buneary has to be of a certain gender. Until Buneary's gender is explicitly stated or is hit by attract/cute charm, its gender stays at unknown. End of discussion.--ForceFire 16:33, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
