Animated Sprite

Here's an animated sprite I made. It's not perfect, but at least it's better than the current static image. --SpeedSuicune 16:20, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

Unprotect

This article should be unprotected and created now that enough information is known. --Shiny Noctowl 01:12, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Behold. It's in the works. It's been in the works. It'll be moved when it's ready. 梅子 01:14, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Черен

"Черен" means "black" in Russian also. Kikugi 08:23, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Nope. Russian for black is чёрный. I'm learning the language. Also, I think that rather than wondering what language is it taken from, we should say that it's actually a SLAVIC root. Russian, Bulgarian, Polish, Czech, Serbian, Ukrainian etc. - those are all Slavic languages and the words for "black" and "white" are very similar in all of them, as they all came from the same Proto-Slavic root. --Maxim 09:47, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
So isn't "черен" a short form of "чёрный" like "бел" (Bel) is a short form of "белый"? Kikugi 10:27, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
Well, it's possible. But such forms seem to be very rarely used and somewhat obsolete. I really think that it's hard to specify what language are the names Bel and Cheren derived from. Both are from common Slavonic roots běl- and čĭrn- which evolved differently in respective languages. I'm a linguist (not a professional yet but studying and striving to become one), so if you've got questions about such thing, then call me. --Maxim 10:44, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
Well, thanks :) Kikugi 13:53, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
Russian here. "Черен" is never used in common speach term for "black in coloration". --ЫъГЬ 15:55, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Starter choice

Pokebeach has confirmed that Cheren chooses the starter strong against yours. --Shiny Noctowl 20:01, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

yeah about the manga info

the chapter's already out and Cheren does appear in it with Pokabu (Pokabu only uses Ember in thc chapter) so the line should be changed so that it's current Ataro 05:18, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Changed, thanks. I only knew about the preview on CoroCoro's site... I didnt realize the chapter was already released. --ZestyCactus 05:25, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
also Wargle makes an appearance too(belonging to some old guy), more info is on the forums along with (not so good) pictures of it... Ataro 05:56, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Hair

Shouldn't we note that Cheren has black hair (or at least, dark hair), corresponding to the name and Bel vice versa with lighter hair?-444Zekrom 06:57, 04 September 2010 (UTC)

Rival?

Could Cheren be the player's rival? Ruberduck0123 06:47, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

I think he and Bel would both count as the player's rivals. I wonder why it's not included on the page in any way. --AndyPKMN 11:33, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

wrong sprite

the sprite used is the sprite shown in the intro after naming your character. the sprite used in battle is different. same with bel. -Pokeant 06:53, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Question

So, we only battle him 3 times, Bel 3 times, with the starters they chose un-evovled? Da'Chimchar Fan 19:10, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

050Diglett.png This article is incomplete. Please feel free to edit this article to add missing sections and complete it. ~ solaris 19:19, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

3rd battle

Info about third battle here and in Unova Route 3 is contradactory (Tepig's level, Oshawott's item and moveset), so which one is right? Haven't checked other battles. --ЫъГЬ 15:55, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

A few things with my battle were contradictory too. I chose Snivy, and instead of scratch, the purrloin knew fury swipes instead.-Ivy73002MS.png 16:30, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

8th battle

Hi, the link on the 8th battle goes to the Victory Road disambiguation page. Shouldn't it go to the Unova victory road page? I tried changing it, but i'm not that familiar with the code here and buggered it up, so i changed it back to what it was again. If anyone could do that, it's be great. Cheers Migrant 00:52, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

The party template coding might need to be updated. I personally don't know how, but for now, I've fixed the link. --rockersk08 01:01, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

Title color

The text above Cheren's artwork is on a dark-grey background. In some screens it's hard to read (some LCDs, for example). Is there a way to change the text color to white? Duke R 14:58, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

New comments to the bottom please. Also, I've changed it. Werdnae (talk) 08:55, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Should Quotes be added?

I was thinking of getting the quotes for Cheren, Bianca and Professor Juniper; seeing as most of the other important NPCs in Unova have Quotes sections. I thought I'd better ask first, though, if anyone else thinks this would be a good idea- considering the fact that these three NPCs, Cheren in particular, have **A LOT** of quotes and this might possibly add *too much* to the pages. Any opinions on this, before I spend the rest of the week working on this? [or indeed in case anyone else might be already working on this?] ShiningSteelix 15:05, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

Komor is Hungarian????

The article says that Cheren's Italian name, Komor means black in Hungarian. Well, that's totally wrong. There is a Hungarian word "komor", but it means "grim", not black. Black is "fekete" in Hungarian. If it's meant to be a pun on "korom", which is not that likely, it means soot, which is a black substance, but I suppose this name has nothing to do with Hungarian. BTW I am Hungarian. Prospekt 11:14, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

I changed it to gloomy for the time being. If anyone finds something that's better and actually exists, feel free to change it though. Prospekt 18:58, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Trivia, Pokémon, or not add?

On Route 1 at the start Bianca challenges you and Cheren to capture the most Pokémon and she claims both her and Cheren have 2 Pokémon. Does this mean that Cheren caught a Patrat/Lillipup and then immediately boxed/released it as it is never on his team? And should this be featured on the page at all? If so where? Wexdarn 21:45, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

I always figured it meant he somehow managed to obtain his Purrloin on Route 1. But, as for mention in the article, it doesn't really seem all that notable to be put into the article... --Azurillglow2mlw7 05:02, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Contacts

CoroCoro shows him without glasses in Black & White 2, also as a Normal-type Gym Leader, so I guess he replaces Lenora, and gets contacts? プリングルズ/品客薯片/ప్రింగిల్స్ 03:44, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Just because he no longer wears glasses, does not mean that he has contacts. Rai Marshall 04:44, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
Ok, though it's really hard to see if you wore glasses before. Just saying. プリングルズ/品客薯片/ప్రింగిల్స్ 01:36, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

Black and White 2

Cheren is now a Normal-type Gym Leader, replacing Lenora and giving out the Basic Badge. He is the first Gym Leader. Source: [1]

Should we add this to the page? Or wait for CoroCoro's official release? Kookamooka 11:05, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Actually, it has already been added to the infobox. And please, never use fansites like Pokébeach as a source; we've reported it on Bulbanews anyway. --SnorlaxMonster 11:31, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Show/Hide

Shouldn't we do the show/hide thing for the battles, cuz it's goin' kinda long. It might help if you can read First Battle and click the "show", etc. プリングルズ/品客薯片/ప్రింగిల్స్ 01:38, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

OK, we got a slight problem.

There are too many templates. Seems when ‎Marked +-+-+ added the Tag Partner template for B2W2, it caused the page to have one template too many. Now the ones at the bottom won't load, and when I previewed, I got a message that said "Warning: Template include size is too large. Some templates will not be included." Guess we'll need to make a subpage? Ataro (talk) 22:33, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

Sounds like a plan stan, but keep his Gym Leader team template so he'll match the other leaders. --Pokemaster97 22:36, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

Wrong sprite

The Cheren's overworld sprite from BW2 is not the same with the one from BW. Just look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMjsBZSeUqM . Caciulacdlac (talk) 10:22, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

See the one below the BW overworld sprite.--ForceFire 10:28, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
Yes, it's the same sprite from BW. We need to use the new sprite shown in that picture:Aspertia Gym Summer B2W2.png Caciulacdlac (talk) 12:00, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Wrong Pokemon?

So I just did the memory link battle against Cheren on white 2. My starter was Snivy in my original version of White and the team was the exact same. But when I did the memory link battle his monkey was Simipour not Simisage. His starter was still emboar and bianca's memory link team was the same. Did my game just glitch or something? Yug18-11 (talk) 18:28, 27 October 2012 (UTC)

His team has done this in the JP versions as well, and honestly I'm a little confused why it hasn't been fixed on the page yet. Not sure if it's just a coding mix-up or what, but regardless. My memory linked file had a different starter distribution between the three of them, so I don't think it's tied to that, as a note. Professorbel (talk) 04:26, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

Alternate Gym Leader Title?

The gym sign post has a different translation of the title than the badge case. It reads "The one who seeks the right path." (period included, all lowercase except the T). This also happens with the other two new leader's sign posts, but not the old gym leader's. I guess this would either go under trivia or something like that? (as a note, the other new gym sign posts are, in order, "Poison days, poison on the stage!" and "More Splash than the Sea") Professorbel (talk) 04:32, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

Put them as Trivia under the Japanese title on all of them. --Abcboy (talk) 04:39, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

anime pokemon

Whether in Pokemon should not appear Pokemons from Aspertia Gym? (Sunflora, Ducklett, Minccino, Shinx) Pawel10s (talk) 13:40, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

2nd Battle Black, White

I've noticed that in the money won from defeating Cheren it says 800 pok'e for one starter and 500 poke for the others, I feel this is a typo but am not sure. Zombiedude347 (talk) 03:00, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

Cheren's Stoutland?

In the trailer, isn't Cheren seen using a Stoutland against Rosa's Serperior? WATERWarrior67 17:26, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

Adding trailer information

Since Nate, Rosa and Hugh's Pokémon seen in the Black2 and White2 promotion trailer have been added to their pages, shouldn't Cheren's Stoutland also be added? Danny199 (talk) 22:44, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

Voice Actor

His voice actor for the anime is Takuya Eguchi in the japanese version and Todd Haberkorn in the english version, for the introduction movie his voice actors are Jason Griffith for the english version and Ryouhei Kimura for the japanese version. Momotaro

I really feel like there's a Momotaro reference hidden in Unovan Pokemon, especially in rival teams, like Cheren. As you can see Cheren uses Unfezant (pheasant), Simisage/pour/sear (monkey) and Liepard (not a dog, but similar pet animal). Bianca uses Stoutland (there's the dog) and Simisage/pour/sear (monkey). Hugh, like Cheren, lacks the dog. All of them have almost perfect Momotaro themed teams and that's because Unova gives you the dog as early mammal, the pheasant as early bird and a monkey as the "second starter". We know from interviews that the creators planned to make an oni pair from Throh/Sawk and Thundurus/Tornadus. Per Lockstin video, we can see that this legend was the most significant in WW2, where USA was an enemy of Japan and associated with onis from the story, that's why the reference makes sense in Unova, a USA based region. Going back to Cheren, he starts using Stoutland as his main Pokemon in B2W2 completing the Momotaro trio. I'd like to mention this somewhere as a trivia, but I'm not sure where yet. I'll leave it here for potential discussion.--Rocket Grunt 09:58, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
