The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero (Japanese: ゼロの()(ほう) The Hidden Treasure of Zero) is paid downloadable content for the Generation IX core series games Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. It was announced on February 27, 2023 during a Pokémon Presents, and was made available for purchase later that day. A physical bundle pack was announced on September 26, 2023 and was made available for purchase starting on November 3, 2023.

Mechanics

Following the pattern established with Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass, the Hidden Treasure of Area Zero allows players to continue using their existing save data from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet to access the added content.

Players can access the content of The Teal Mask and visit Kitakami after starting the Treasure Hunt as part of the main storyline of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. In order to access the content of The Indigo Disk, players will need to have completed the main storyline of both Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and The Teal Mask.[1]

As a purchase bonus, the DLC provides a set of exclusive clothing, including four new uniforms. Players who purchased the DLC before October 31, 2023, also received a serial code for a Hisuian Zoroark.

Parts

Part 1: The Teal Mask

In The Teal Mask, players will be chosen to take part in a school trip that is held each year in collaboration with another school. They’ll be taken to the land of Kitakami, where a great mountain towers over the land and the people live at its base. It is a place of tranquil natural expanses, featuring rice paddies and apple orchards. The trip seems to coincide with a festival regularly held in the village in Kitakami during this season, so the village is bustling with various street vendors and stalls. Players will meet new friends and Pokémon as they unravel the mysteries behind the folktales that have been passed down in this land. This expansion features many new and returning Pokémon, including the game mascot Ogerpon. It was released on September 13, 2023.

Part 2: The Indigo Disk

In The Indigo Disk, players will be traveling to the Blueberry Academy, a sister school of their own academy, as an exchange student. This expansion features many new and returning Pokémon, including the game mascot Terapagos. It was released on December 14, 2023.

Epilogue: Mochi Mayhem

In this final part of the DLC, players will return to Kitakami to catch the Mythical Pokémon Pecharunt. It was implemented along with The Indigo Disk, but it is only unlocked with the unreleased Mythical Pecha Berry key item.

Trivia

  • The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero shares similarities with the Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass.
  • When preorders became available, the Nintendo eShop unusually displayed The Teal Mask's release date as December 31, 2023; and The Indigo Disk's release date as April 30, 2024. (When a partial release date is revealed, the eShop usually aligns with the latest possible date that matches.)
    • The Teal Mask's release date on the eShop also did not update when the official date of September 13, 2023 was revealed.
  • Both game mascots of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero have a connection to the Terastal phenomenon.
