Battle styles[1] (also referred to as throwing styles[2]) are a mechanic from the core series Pokémon games that allows the player to customize the animation of sending out a Pokémon during battle, debuting in Pokémon Sun and Moon. They often mimic the animation used by a specific character in the series.
Generation VII
In Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon, Battle Styles were created by Gester,[1] who will teach them to the player at the Outer Cape of Malie City, after certain conditions have been met. He will also allow the player to edit their current battle style to whichever they want once unlocked. This will change both the player's idle pose during battle, as well as the animation when sending out their first Pokémon during battle.
The currently-selected style is visible in both single-player and multi-player battles. However, the Nihilist style is only visible in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. If a Sun and Moon player battles an USUM player with the Nihilist style equipped, it will instead display as the Normal style on the SM player's game.

Generation IX
In the The Indigo Disk Expansion Pass for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the player can contribute BP to Mitch of the Blueberry Academy's Baseball Club in order to change their throwing style. This is done by interacting with the PC at the League Club Room.
By donating 10 BP, the player can change their existing styles. New styles are unlocked by donating 150 BP.
Unlike in Generation VII, this does not influence the player's idle pose when in battle, only changing their throw animation.
