This article needs
This arcticle needs to include the Kanto radio channels, and also the channel that allows you to hear the Rocket signal at Lake Rage. I also think we need to get started on an article about the Hoenn TV shows, and Mixing Records. I'll try and fill in what info I can, but I'm pretty limited Manga-in-a-bottle 13:36, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
Lost the instructions
On certain occasions, if you try to adjust for Daylight Savings Time, your mom claims that she lost the PokéGear's instruction booklet. Does anyone know why this happens?Turbo 00:21, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

- Since the article is about the PokéGear (and it's likely to maintain its name in HGSS), I don't think we should do anything more than updating the article for info on the HGSS version. Pokemon lover 11:37, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Battle Items
After battling a Sailor Huey many times (the final one being his last new set of Pokémon), he said that he was grateful to battle me and blah...anyhow, he gave me an item afterwards: Protein. Does this happen to other trainers that say they want to battle? Is it all consistent with the items? ht14 11:48, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

I was told that using the radio in HG/SS on a DSi will let you listen to music saved onto an SD card. Is this true? --Thermorules123 16:23, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

No Lucky Channel?
I just got the radio card in HG... so... no Lucky Channel now? That was my favourite one! Is the music out completely, does anyone know? Really, I liked it because it wasn't like the rest of this sedate stuff... - unsigned comment from Darien Shields (talk • contribs)

Rematches
In HeartGold/SoulSilver, what do you have to accomplish before the trainers you call challenge you to a rematch? I know each trainer has a specific day & time of day, but even calling in that time frame doesn't work early on in the game. At some point, though, they always challenge you when called at their set time. But I can't figure out what the defining landmark event is supposed to be. Perhaps after defeating Team Rocket at the radio tower? --MarkoOhNo 19:33, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
- Be specific... I'm guessing you're talking about typical trainers, right? ht14 22:15, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
- Yes. I mean obviously you can't get rematches against gym leaders or the elite four early in the game. But the trainers who will offer a rematch when you call them won't do so until some point late in the game. The ability to call and get offered a rematch with an NPC trainer is apparently blocked by an event. I'm wondering what the trigger might be. I'd never been able to figure it out before; just one day I try again and it works. Is it the number of gym badges? I have a trainer with 5 who still won't get offered rematches when he calls. Battling the red Gyarados? Defeating Team Rocket? First or the second time? I'm checking if anyone who normally would rematch for the current time & day actually will, after every significant event, and will report if I find a definitive answer. But if anyone already knows that would be cool. --MarkoOhNo 23:29, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
- You'll notice that the trainers will call themselves if they want to rematch. If you call them, they just say stuff or say they're waiting for you if you've already got a match set (because they called you). However, it just takes a bit for them to call. There is no set point in the game that they'll call and ask. Even among the later trainers (after you've received calls for other battles) sometimes, they actually take a while to call you and ask for a fight. There's probably a 1 in x chance that they want to battle, but i'm unsure of what that is. KurosakisTwin 09:15, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, there are specific times of the week in which you can call to request a rematch. I don't think we have them, but Serebii does. --AndyPKMN 11:52, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Titles?
Should the HG/SS titles stated on the Pokégear for Bill and Buena be added to their entries on the list? I would imagine there would be some confusion with Bill with his title being "Poké Maniac" but I don't see anything wrong about adding "Radio Personality" for Buena's. I assume they didn't have these back in GSC (or just C for Buena) so I figured it'd be best to ask. - Trainer Hunter 09:58, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Organisation of the Radio Stations
I feel that it is quite difficult to read through the stations, especially if you want Gen IV or II ones only. I'd reccomend splitting the two up, listing twice the repeated stations. If they are not to be reorganised, at least sort out the consistency, ie have whether they are gen II or IV in the same column every time. Camzoman, 16:19, 3rd June 2010 (UTC)
Childhood Friend Ethan/Lyra phone calls
Shouldn't be specified what does mean the Childhood Friend Ethan/Lyra phone calls?
Often he/she suggest you to bring a Pokémon to a route where there might happen something unusual... maybe golden leaves? maybe the Pokémon will react in a different way when talking to it?
For example, it's happened that Lyra suggested me to bring my Sudowoodo to the Route 36 and I did so, when I talked to it, it was "playing with my bag" and I had the option to scold it or not (I chose not).
This is not the first time I found this kind of talking options, but it's the first time I found it just after I did what Lyra suggested. --Wolf01 22:26, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
- I've had that option without being phoned. If I'm correct in my interpretation, Ethan/Lyra is just telling you that these Pokémon can have special responses in this area - such as Ampharos in the Glitter Lighthouse. —darklordtrom 07:45, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

Deleting Phone Numbers
Between the five games, does deleting phone numbers reset the rematches for those trainers? ~ By Caroline under Bulbagarden ~ (talk) 00:04, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
- At the very least, phone numbers in HGSS cannot be deleted. If I recall correctly, even if the numbers were deleted in GSC, the matches do not reset. ht14 01:28, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
Rematch info in original GSC is missing in the location pages.
Is there a reason as to why? Trainer Yusuf (talk) 11:00, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
Phone quotes
I noticed that in GSC the Trainers that the player registers on the phone say similar things regardless of Trainer class, although the quotes do differ by gender. Example:
♂️
- "Hello? This is <trainer>... How's it going, <player>? My <Pokémon>'s looking awesome. I wish I could show you. Hey, listen! I almost caught <other Pokémon> the other day. Oh, it was soooo close too! See you later!"
- "Hello? This is <trainer>... How's it going, <player>? My <Pokémon>'s pretty energetic. It's a handful! Oh yeah, I managed to beat a tough <other Pokémon>. I need to make my party stronger. See you later!"
♀️
- "Hi. This is <trainer>. Hi, <player>! How are you? I dressed up my <Pokémon>. It looks even cuter than before. Guess what happened the other day. I missed catching <other Pokémon> again. Maybe I'm not very good at this... Bye-bye!"
- "Hi. This is <trainer>. Hi, <player>! How are you? How are your Pokémon doing? I always keep my <Pokémon> in top shape by going to Pokémon Centers. You have to hear this! I battled <other Pokémon> the other day. It was easy! I had a type advantage. Bye-bye!"

Random rematches
When an NPC rematches the player "randomly", what's the chance that he'll rematch the player? sumwun (talk) 22:33, 13 February 2018 (UTC)
GSC Rematches and other chances
I would like to add the chances of rematches of all phone trainers. I have all the information written up already, taken from the disassemblies. The probabilities change with the trainer, even Hiker Parry has a 100% rematch rate on Crystal. I am thinking about adding a column(s) with the rematch/swarm/item probability per call.
I may also add that Kenji does not rematch the player at all on Crystal, only gives PP Up when called and visited during his break. The breaks are random afternoons, separated by 3 - 6 days intervals.
I am open to suggestions, thank you. Rarecandybar (talk) 22:26, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
- I think that info would be useful. (And I always like sources, preferably more specific than "the disassembly" when it's easy to misread code.)
- As for the percentages, I'm not sure at the moment whether an additional column would be best, or whether it may just as well fit into any existing column. I'd just trust your judgement there. Nescientist (talk) 22:56, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you. May I ask what would be a more reliable source than the disassembly on Github? I am somewhat confident with it, as I have studied it for a while. I also test it for real whenever I can. Lately I have been learning about the overall phone mechanics in Generation II.
- About the format, I think I could also add information about specific trainers on their own / Routes articles instead (for example, the triggers for higher rematches). I would like to keep it consistent in here, but prefer not to just add a ton of numbers. Hopefully a new column for random rematches will be less cumbersome than adding it to the Notes column. On the other hand, adding the chances of swarm/item can be added somewhere else, as they are pretty consistent across trainers. Thank you. Rarecandybar (talk) 23:28, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
- I wasn't saying anything about reliability, I was talking specificity. "Source: the disassembly" is way less useful than "Source: https://github.com/pret/pokecrystal/blob/master/data/phone/phone_contacts.asm#L47" or something. Any vandal could just claim their source was "the disassembly".
- Also, especially when calculations etc. are involved, basically others have the possibility to potentially review your findings rather easily (so cases where code is misread or something, like here, won't stick for too long). Nescientist (talk) 00:15, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
- I absolutely agree with you, I apologize for the confusion. It is just I have seen only few explicit citations altogether. I try that my contributions (if any) will be only objective from the code; potentially, I would prefer to be open to discuss and call out references on the Talk page instead. Should I add the links on the Edit Summary box? Or directly in the article? Thank you for answering my questions. Rarecandybar (talk) 01:12, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
- I haven't really done much citations within articles for that tbh, I usually use edit summaries, or talk pages for more complex things. These technicalities are definitely somewhat different than things you would usually cite when writing scientifically (like, for example, official word on a release date for a game) - for most things, the source ultimately is the game itself, which shouldn't require a source/citation. Not saying this is definitely the way to go, but at least I never saw enough reason to fundamentally change my behavior. Nescientist (talk) 16:05, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

- I would definitely love to see this if/when you guys decide the logistics. Been circling the drain waiting for a Water and Leaf Stone! Also, are you sure about Blackbelt Kenji? I only ever get to talk to him on Wednesdays around lunch (between 10am-2pm).
- I have the info written down. I just don't know if I should over-populate the existing table with more info. If you want to know, Tully and Gina (and the other two trainers) each have a 33%/50% chance of giving you a stone if they hadn't given one yet. Afterwards, the chances drops to about 4%/9%, respectively. And a random contact calls roughly every 20 or 35 minutes. So yeah, after already getting a stone, you'll have to wait a while for the next one.
- Regarding Kenji, you can call him anytime but if you call on a certain random afternoon he will also invite you to visit him (then he will give you a PP Up). I have always tried to check the facts from the code instead of my own experience (less hours than I would've wanted); honestly I didn't even know he gives PP Ups to begin with... Irwin rematch requirements in HGSS
According to the Route 35 page, Irwin can be rematched, but there's no day of the week or time of day listed anywhere. I thought that this was an error, so I tried each day of the week, morning, noon, and night. No rematch offer. This leads me to believe he has to call you and request a rematch. However, I have 104 hours logged and recieved countless calls from him. No request. It can't be a progress thing as the only thing I have left to do is to beat Red.
With this context out of the way, I can get to my point.
What are the requirements? Is my hunch about him having to call you correct, and I just have awful luck? If someone knows, I feel that this info is pertinent and should be added to avoid confusion. General Kipicus (talk) 18:36, 15 February 2022 (UTC)
Adding the "Cannot be call for a rematch" for four trainers
The four trainers that can be add into the PokeGear (Irwin, Beverly, Derek, Kenji) have rematch teams but they never used it & when they call us they only give items. I know Irwin is already listed as "Can't be call for a rematch", but I think the other 3 should be listed as same as Irwin AntiHero1989 (talk) 17:10, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
