Release information

This card was included in the Team Rocket expansion as both a Holofoil and Non Holofoil card with artwork by Ken Sugimori, first released in the Japanese Rocket Gang expansion as a Holofoil card. It was reprinted as a Supporter card in the EX Team Rocket Returns expansion with new artwork by the same artist, first released in the Japanese Rocket Gang Strikes Back expansion. It was reprinted as a retro card in the Evolutions expansion, first released in the Japanese Expansion Pack 20th Anniversary subset, featuring the same artwork as the original print and an updated card template reminiscent of the Original Series layout. A Full Art XY-P Promotional print with artwork by Naoki Saito was available in the Japanese Team Rocket Special Case, released in February 2017. This print also features a card template reminiscent of the Original Era card layout.

The Team Rocket Holofoil print was rereleased in the Celebrations expansion's Classic Collection for the Pokémon 25th Anniversary. This print features the 25th Anniversary logo in the bottom right corner of the artwork and lacks Wizards of the Coast from the copyright information. In Japan, it was reprinted as part of the Promo Card Pack 25th Anniversary Edition with a red and gold "25th" logo in the bottom right corner of the artwork. Both prints are Confetti Holofoil and have etching similar to Full Art cards.

Trivia

  • The Team Rocket print was one of the first Holofoil Trainer cards in both English and Japanese. This was also the first Japanese card to feature a Super Rare rarity.
  • Unlike in the anime (with the exception for the first twenty-three episodes of Pokémon the Series: Black & White), Jessie's and James's clothes are colored black instead of white in the first print of this card, much like the Grunts of Team Rocket.

Origin

Jessie, and James, two members of the trio of Team Rocket agents constantly following Ash, are featured in all versions of this card's illustration. Meowth is usually also present, but is not in the EX Team Rocket Returns printing.
