Tate and Liza (Japanese: フウとラン and Ran) are the Gym Leaders of Mossdeep City. They specialize in Psychic-type Pokémon. They give the Mindbadge to challengers who defeat them.

Liza's English name means "god's oath". Tate's English name means "to be cheerful". However, they may have been picked because taken together, LizaTate sounds like "levitate", an ability that their Pokémon share. Their French names are "Levy & Tatia", which compose the word "levitation". Also their German names, if put together, create a word meaning "levitation": "Svenja & Ben" ("schweben"). "Leti & Vito", their Spanish names, are very similar to "levitacion"("levitation"). Their Italian names have a different meaning: "Tell & Pat" create "telepatia"("telepathy").

In the Anime

In the Anime, Tate and Liza's father owns the Mosdeep Space Centre and often goes into space to search for space Pokémon. This means that they often spend time at the Space Centre, and even have battles in zero-gravity.

Liza is the older of the two, and more experienced in battle, allowing Tate to relate with Max.
