Pokémon Stadium 2 is the Generation II version of the original Pokemon Stadium 1. Running on the Nintendo 64, it allows players to upload and battle their Pokémon in full 3D from Pokemon Red and Blue, Pokemon Yellow, Pokemon Gold and Silver, and Pokemon Crystal with the use of a Transfer Pak.
White City
White City is the home of a large Pokémon Stadium, a state of the art laboratory, a prestigious Pokémon academy and much more.
The Stadium
Number of Players: One
Pokémon may either be rented or you may use one from your game cartridge attached by a Transfer Pak. In each tournament you must defeat eight different trainers to receive the cup. The Poké Cup and Challenge Cup have four difficulty levels.
Little Cup:
- Only basic Pokémon may enter. A total of 86 kinds are elligible.
- Sonic Boom and Dragon Rage have no effect
Poké Cup:
- Pokémon must be between the levels of 50 and 55.
- The sum of the levels of the three Pokémon chosen to battle must not be more than 155.
- Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-oh, and Celebi cannot enter.
Prime Cup:
- All Pokémon up to level 100 are elligible, your opponents all use level 100 Pokémon.
Challenge Cup:
- Your six Pokémon are chosen for you.
- There are four different level classes.
Free Battle
Number of Players: One to Four
Here you can battle with one to four people or battle the computer. Two people may battle on a team against the opponent. In this mode you can choose the Stadium background and create your own rules.
Gym Leader Castle
Number of Players: One
At the Gym Leader Castle, you can use your own Pokémon or rented ones to battle the Gym Leaders of Johto and Kanto. Each gym has several trainers and each region ends with the Elite Four.

GB Tower
Number of Players: One
At the Gameboy Tower, you can play all compatible Pokémon Gameboy games on your Nintendo 64 by using the Transfer Pak. This is similar to Nintendo's Gameboy Player, except it only plays the compatible Pokémon games.
You can choose to either Load Max or Load Little. Load Max makes gameplay faster, but takes longer to load the Gameboy game.
Laboratory
In this laboratory of Professor Oak, you can do several things:
- Switch game paks to upload data from
- Trade Pokemon between different game paks (requires two Transfer Paks and two compatible Pokémon games)
- Check a 3-D Pokédex
- Move and check items and Pokémon on a PC. You can use this PC to store Pokémon on your Pokémon Stadium pak (similar to Pokémon Box for Nintendo's Gamecube)
Pokémon Academy
At Earl's Pokémon Academy, you can learn new battle skills then show them off. Work your way through Lectures, Wisdom Tests, and Skill Tests at the Trainer, Gym Leader, and Elite Four classes to become the top in your class. There is also an extensive items, Pokémon, and battling library at the Academy.
Your Room
Here you see your room from Pokemon Gold and Silver versions in 3-D. You can redecorate it as you want, but first must have a game cartridge attached with a Transfer Pak.
Mini Games
Four different game modes are available with twelve mini-games.
- Play a Mini-Game: Choose which mini-game you want to play. Any slots not used by players will be filled in by the computer. (1-4 Players)
- Mini-Game Champion: Be the first to get a certain amount of coins to become the champion. Coins are awarded by die and a series of mini-games involving four players (other players or the computer). If you win, your coins will be downloaded to you Coin Case if you have a game cartridge attached. (1-4 Players)
- 1P Quiz: Test how many Pokémon questions you can answer in 100 seconds. (1 Player)
- Quiz for All: The first person to get the question right gets a point, and the first to get 10 points wins.(1-4 Players)

Number of Players: One to Two
In this mode, one or two players battle with a random set of Level 40 Pokémon.
Event Battle
Number of Players: Two
In this two-player battle mode you can play with the rules of one of the Cups, or create your own.
Mystery Gift
The girl here will give you one gift a day. If the gift is an item, you must pick it up at the Laboratory. Note: You must first activate the Mystery Gift feature in Pokemon Gold and Silver or Pokemon Crystal. This mode is not available for Generation I versions.
