Janine (Japanese: アンズ Anzu) is the Gym Leader of Fuchsia City's Gym, known officially as the Fuchsia Gym, after her father, Koga, is promoted to the Elite Four in Generation II. She specializes in Template:Type2 Pokémon. She gives the Soul Badge to Trainers who best her. In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, her name is accidentally listed as Charine.
In the games
Janine succeeded to the position of Gym Leader after her father, Koga, became a member of the Elite Four. Her title is "The Poisonous Ninja Master".
Using a technique of confusion, all the trainers in Fuchsia Gym disguise themselves as Janine.
Originally, Janine's goal was to use Template:Type2 Pokémon as well as her father. After becoming a Gym Leader, Janine hopes that by applying herself, she'll improve her skills and become better than her father, as well as Gold/Kris from Johto.

In the Pokémon Special manga
Janine is the daughter of Koga, and the new Gym Leader at Fuchsia City. She does, however, leave town on many occasions to perform various jobs for anyone with the money to hire her. She was shown in volume 136 to be in the middle of such a job, pretending to steal a large pearl to test the security at the Goldenrod Museum. After completing it, she pauses on a rooftop to wonder what she is doing with her life.
Her father, being both a ninja and a member of Team Rocket, had hoped to make her a member as well, both serving their master, Giovanni. But with Koga and Giovanni's disappearance, she was left alone and unguided. Searching for not just her father, but a master, Janine found herself in the same situation as Suicune, whom also was searching for a trainer in its upcoming battle.
Suddenly, Suicune appeared before Janine, and challenged her. Suicune seemed initially caught off-guard by her tactics, but soon won. Before he left, Janine expressed her desires for finding her own master, just as she felt Suicune was.
Janine later fought against Falkner at the Gym Leaders Challenge. Despite overwhelming attacks, she forfeited the match when she left the battlefield, pursuing who she thought was her father. She never did catch the mysterious person, however, and it is unknown if they will ever meet again.

Trivia
- Janine is the only Gym Leader not to appear in the anime after her series was introduced.
- In Gold, Silver and Crystal, Janine's Pokémon are much weaker than other Kanto Gym Leaders, by 5 or more levels, possibly to show she is still inexperienced. By comparison, Koga and the members of the Elite Four have teams on-par level wise with the Kanto Gym Leaders.
