Pokémon Breeder (Trainer class)
A Pokémon Breeder (Japanese: ポケモンブリーダー Pokémon Breeder) is primarily a Pokémon Trainer who raises and mates carefully selected Pokémon to reproduce specific improvements in future generations of Pokémon, such as moves, DVs, or natures.
In the games
Pokémon Breeders appeared as a Trainer class in Generation III, and can often be found near Pokémon Daycares. They raise a large number of varied Pokémon, generally maintaining a balanced team, although they are often weak compared to other trainers in the area they reside in.
In Pokémon Emerald, there is also a Legendary Top Pokémon Breeder in the Battle Frontier.
Also, a few people playing the games themselves consider themselves Pokémon Breeders, breeding certain Pokémon together to receive maximum opportunity for good Egg moves, natures and IV spread.
Appearance
In the anime
Pokémon breeders typically concern themselves with raising Pokémon for health and happiness, rather than for Pokémon battles. They also participate in beauty contests and related competitions - not to be confused with Pokémon Contests, though it is common for them to take interest in these as well.
Aspects of Pokémon breeders in the anime typically also handle or cover include:
- Making and hatching Pokémon eggs
- Pokémon grooming
- Pokémon nutrition
The first, however, is mostly based on assumption. Breeders in the anime have not been seen helping Pokémon breed.

Trivia
- For DP007, Professor Oak's lecture is about the Breeders. He writes this Pokémon senryū about them: ポケモンに つくしてそだてる ブリーダー Pokémon ni tsukushite sodateru Burīdā "The breeder who raises and devotes himself to Pokémon."
In the manga
Gold, although never officially called breeder, specializes in hatching Pokémon in Pokémon Special manga. Other characters who can be called "breeders" in this manga are Daycare couple.
In the TCG
In the TCG, a Pokémon Breeder appears on a card in the Base Set. In the Neo Revelation expansion, Breeders are also featured in a card called Pokémon Breeder Fields.
Trivia
Interestingly, while Brock has mentioned his interest in being a Pokémon Breeder since he was introduced, the Trainer class did not appear until Generation III. Just the same, the only Pokémon Breeders found in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen are female.
