Battle item

A battle item is, as its name implies, an item given to a Pokémon during battle to enhance its performance. These battle items, however, wear off after a battle or when the Pokémon is switched out.

Types of battle items

X Attack

• Description: Temporarily raises Attack
• Location: Department Stores
• Price:$500
• Sell Price: $250
• Effect: Increases Attack by 1 stage, like Howl

X Defend

• Description: Temporarily raises Defense
• Location: Department Stores
• Price: $550
• Sell Price: $275
• Effect: Increases Defense by 1 stage, like Defense Curl

X Sp. Def

• Effect: Increases Sp.Def by 1 stage

X Speed

• Description: Temporarily raises Speed
• Location: Department Stores

• Effect: Increases Speed by 1 stage

X Accuracy

• Description: Temporarily raises Accuracy
• Location: Department Stores
• Price: $950
• Sell Price: $475
• Effect: Increases Accuracy by 1 stage

Dire Hit

• Description: Temporarily raises critical hit ratio
• Location: Department Stores
• Price: $650
• Sell Price: $325
• Increases critical hit ratio, like Focus Energy

Guard Spec.

• Description: Temporarily prevents stat reduction
• Location: Department Stores
• Price: $700
• Sell Price: $350
• Prevents stat reduction, like Mist

Trivia

• Both X Attack and X Defend appeared in the TCG as Trainer cards, however, their English language release accidentally used their Japanese names, PlusPower and Defender. Their sprites introduced in the Generation III games also indicate that they are the same item by their appearance and color.
• Some Gym Leaders in Generation I as well as trainers in Norman's Gym (Generation III) use these items. Various Trainers in Pokémon Platinum (Usually School Kids and Scientists) use them occasionally.
