Talk:In-battle effect item
Iron Ball
Why is there a point of having an Iron Ball? The only thing that makes it useful is that it gives the most power on the move Fling... Tesh 12:26, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- Trick also combos nicely with it. --DarkfireTaimatsu 19:28, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- You could have the Pokémon holding it use Trick Room and then the Speed cut would become a good thing. Shiny Noctowl 19:39, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
Oh, it just seems like a pointless object. Never mind. Tesh 19:48, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- Tesh, you're only thinking of beneficial effects from holding an item. Several held items that were added in Generation IV don't actually benefit the Pokémon holding it, but are meant to be used with other strategies that weren't possible with the previous Generations. Examples:
- Toxic Orb/Flame Orb- These items don't benefit the Pokémon that holds it, but they are useful when combined with certain moves (Fling, Trick, and Switcheroo in particular) and Abilities (Guts (with Toxic Orb at least), Magic Guard (the Pokémon won't take damage from the effect, so they can use a powered-up Facade without taking excessive damage), and Klutz).
- Iron Ball- Iron Ball can be Flung to cause massive damage, or it can be Switcheroo'd/Tricked onto an opponent in order to weaken them (especially helpful against a Flying-type or a Levitating opponent). A Lopunny or Buneary with Klutz can make the most of these tricks, since they won't suffer from the reduced speed.
- Lagging Tail- Trick or Switcheroo will put this on your opponent, making them move last every turn. Very helpful if your Pokémon is extremely slow.
- Don't judge an item just by what it does; judge it by what you can do with it. Diachronos 16:07, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
Black Sludge
I've always wondered, is there any advantage to using Black Sludge on a Poison-type Pokémon as opposed to Leftovers? Blink 17:37 16 August 2007 (GMT)
- You could use Trick or Switcheroo. Or, if the opponent uses Thief, Covet, Trick, or Switcheroo on the first turn because they don't know what you're holding, and they aren't a Poison-type, they will get hurt. --Shiny Noctowl 16:48, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- Or, if you're required to give each Pokémon a different hold item, it's the equivalent of being able to use 2 Leftovers. Zurqoxn 00:04, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Choice Specs
...the man gives out the Choice Specs during the morning, right? Because I just went to him and he talked about BlackGlasses instead. Is 10:35 REALLY not considered morning, or does the time period for BlackGlasses-giveaway happens to be at 10? ...on the other hand, when does the Specs giveaway start and end? Tina☆♥♫δ 16:40, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- The Choice Specs are from 8:00 PM to 3:59 AM, so at night. File:164sMS.pngShiny?! 13:37, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Focus Band/Focus Sash
Do they let you have 1HP left even if you're hit by a OHKO attack, such as Sheer Cold? File:164sMS.pngShiny?! 13:38, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
- No I think it doesn't work aganst 1 hitKO :D,but mmm I battled in battler frontier of emerald long ago and I couldn't beat, I recall, a Exploud wich was holding this Focus Band, because I kept using it like 5 times IN A ROW I'm freaken not kidding,, how was that posible?? I mean this I'm not jocking it did happen!! I want to know why or what!--YukitoOoO 17:17, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
- Focus Sash is one-time, always works on a hit that would bring the Pokémon from full health to death (not Sheer Cold I don't think, but yes, stuff like Psychic on a fighting-type).
- if the Exploud had a Focus Band, that one can trigger multiple times, but it's only got a chance of working. That Exploud probably just got lucky-lucky. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 17:43, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
- Focus Sash works against ANY move that would otherwise take out the Pokémon while it has full health. Sheer Cold, and the other 1H-KO moves included, would take it down to 1 HP. Focus Band is just random chance that it will hold against an attack, including the 1H-KO moves again. R.A. Hunter B. 21:19, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, that happened to my oppenent at the Battle Tower, too, but only twice. --Kimori Geckarbor Hinoarashi 23:10, 19 October 2009 (UTC) Kimori-Hinoarashi
Wide Lens
How much does it raise accuracy by? 20%? 30%? TTEchidnaGSDS! 22:17, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
20% TESHIGIGAS 22:21, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
Nope, 60% . It's a 20% increase. (50 / 10 = 5. 5 × 2 = 10. 50 + 10 = 60%) TESHIGIGAS 16:13, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- Is that taken into account before or after an ability?(i.e. Compoundeyes)
- I'm not sure about that, but I'm guessing that it is done before an ability. TESHIGIGAS 16:56, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
White Herb
Does a white herb, after curing status, get consumed, or is it reusable? Zapdos 18:04, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- It is consumed. TESHIGIGAS 18:05, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
Leftovers under sleeping Snorlax in FR/LG.
Do you need to find this before the Snorlax wakes up?
I've also heard of items being under certain key people in the game, but I've never found them in FR or LG. And I'm an Itemfinder fiend, running it nearly constantly. Machinedramon 19:15, 8 May 2008 (UTC) There's a Soothe Bell under where Mr. Fuji was in Pokémon Tower, and a Macho Brace where Giovanni was standing in the gym. And a Sacred Ash under where Ho-Oh perched. I'm Missingno. Master, and I approve this message. 19:47, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- You have to stand right where they were standing and use the Itemfinder for it to work; the items won't show up AT ALL if you're not standing on that exact spot. Diachronos 16:11, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
If you have 2 exp.shares in your party do they get 1/3 of the exp or do they both get 1/2? ie. would it be practical to have 5 exp.share's if your first one can ohko almost all? Keirou 01:47, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- If two Pokémon are holding Exp. Shares, the experience is divided in thirds, then distributed 1/3 to one holder, 1/3 to the other, and the remaining 1/3 is distributed among whoever battled. Having 5 of your Pokémon hold Exp. Shares would be the equivalent of having an Exp. All. TTEchidna 07:56, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, after experimenting today in Diamond, I discovered that 2 Exp. Shares splits so the pokemon who fought get half, and the sharers get a quarter each. I'll be experimenting with three as soon as I pick it up. Salix 06:00, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
- It appears that the Exp. Sharers get half the exp and the battlers get the other half, or at least in Diamond. Salix 03:33, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
Didn't this split exp evenly between ALL party pokemon in gen1? If memory serves me, it did, and I think that's worth noting. Mageslayer 14:45, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- That was the EXP. ALL. Different item. Similar effect. — THE TROM — 21:39, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Smoke Ball
Does it work on Pokémon with ability such as shadow tag or arena trap or of the Pokémon used mean look before you decide to press run? TheBlazikenMaster 03:25, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
Focus Band AND Smoke Ball AND Focus Sash
For Focus Band, does it work even when your HP is less than full (i.e. 1 HP can still survive)? if so, what are the odds? For Smoke Ball, how do you use it in DP? It doesn't show up in any of the 4 item menus during battle. For Focus Sash, does it FULLY disappear after use (a one-battle deal, please return to the battle tower for another)? -- Sk8torchic
- 1. Yes, but I don't know the odds, 2. Make your Pokémon hold it, 3. yes, but you can also get it at the route near Pal Park. Hope I helped!--Kkllnn blastoise 19:22, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
Amulet Coin
If you have multiple Amulet Coins, would you gain 4 times the amount (for 2), and etc.? ht14 19:38, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- No, as far as I can tell, multiple Amulet Coins and Luck Incenses do not stack. --Shiningpikablu252 19:40, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Black Sludge.... Again
Will Black Sludge hurt Steel types too, or only Pokémon who are affected by Poison moves? R.A. Hunter B. 22:39, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
- It will affect any non-Poison-type Pokémon, Steels included. The description does say ALL other types, but for accuracy's sake, I tried it on my Empoleon and it still worked. --Jayc 08:33, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Underground Appearance
For those items that appear underground, would it be possible to get images of those items as found in the underground? They could be placed at the bottom of the page if that is convenient.Bob.com bob 00:55, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- And...what would be the point of that exactly??? That would be like saying 'get a sprite of a Pokémon, but while it's in a battle.' --Theryguy512 00:56, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
well, you already have sprites of the plates, rare bone, fossils, odd keystone, shards, evolutionary stones, and several other objects, but not of any of these items, at least none that i have found. -- Bob.com bob 01:11, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, well firstly, I totally misread your initial comment; my apologizes. And secondly, it is to my understanding that none of the items on this page can be found Underground, though I may be mistaken... --Theryguy512 01:25, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- Everything under Condition Boosters and then the Iron Ball can be found in the Underground. R.A. Hunter B. 03:12, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- If someone can find them and upload them: do it. — THE TROM — 03:33, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

I found them, I just don't know what do. Like, a table, or something like that?
The only difference is that the files are "Mine" instead of "Bag". R.A. Hunter B. 03:45, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- you could look on the source for other pages that have such images (like evolutionary stones or any of the fossils) for guidance if you don't know what to do with the pictures. Also, if you have sprites for underground items found on other pages it would be nice if you could upload to there, as well. -- Bob.com bob 04:55, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- No, I meant that I don't know if we should use a table for them, or just have them floating in the middle of nowhere at the bottom of the page. And I know the Quick Claw isn't down there, I meant everything in the Condition Booster section, and also the Iron Ball, can be found down there. And we can't put the fossils or stones on the page, because those don't have any in-battle effects. R.A. Hunter B. 15:37, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- What I'd think best? Put the Underground sprites on the Underground's page. We don't need them floating all over the place. Ideally, even, they'd be backgrounds with the charts over them... but I dunno if we can do that... TTEchidna 17:28, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- I did not say Quick Claw, I said Grip Claw, which is under the condition boosters section. Also, I believe that a table would probably be the best way to go if you were to put the sprites on this page, but I think it would be great to put all the items on the Underground page, too. Bob.com bob 16:59, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
- My bad. And I didn't see the Grip Claw under that section. As for the tables, it would probably work better on the Underground's page now that I think about it. All of the items found there link to it anyways. I'll see what I can do. R.A. Hunter B. 19:48, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

So yeah. I'm not happy right now. I had JUST finished making it, and hit preview, and then Bulbapedia dies. After 30 freakin minutes doing the stupid thing.... now I have to redo it. This time I'll save the stuff on a word document. R.A. Hunter B. 20:08, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
- Is there a sprite for the Oval Stone, too? I did not see it in the table of items, but it is in the table of item shapes. Or is the shape table wrong? -- Bob.com bob 23:48, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
- That's why I asked for people to add anything I missed. It took me 30 minutes to redo it, and I did the stones by memory. I'll go add it. R.A. Hunter B. 00:47, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Lucky Egg
Didn't Lucky Egg doubled Exp before Generation IV? Doesn't this deserve a mention? Mr. Charlie 14:19, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
- No. It's like a traded Pokémon. They got half of the normal Exp added on to the total gain from the defeated Pokémon. R.A. Hunter B. 21:48, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
F.E.A.R
Is it possible to use a focus band in F.E.A.R instead of a focus sash User: Vespitomb 10:45, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, but the Focus Band only has a 10% chance of working, although it doesn't require full health to work. In other words, you can use it, but 9 times out of 10 it won't work, making it a pretty useless choice. Werdnae 10:51, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
