Card text
|
You may play a Pokémon card that evolves from Mysterious Fossil on top of Buried Fossil. (This counts as evolving Buried Fossil.) Buried Fossil can't be affected by Special Conditions.
|
|
|
Once during your turn (before your attack), if you have a basic Energy card in your hand, you may search your deck for an Omanyte or Kabuto card, show it to your opponent, and put it into your hand. Then put a basic Energy card from your hand into your deck. Shuffle your deck afterward.

Trivia
- The text stating that players can play a card that evolves from Mysterious Fossil led to a ruling deeming it permissible to evolve Buried Fossil into Aerodactyl ex from EX Sandstorm, despite no specific mention of Aerodactyl ex.
- The text explicitly stating the card can evolve into Omanyte, Kabuto, and Aerodactyl had led people to believe that this card can be used to evolve into the Omanyte, Kabuto, and Aerodactyl cards from Majestic Dawn despite the fact that those cards don't evolve from Mysterious Fossil. However, it's been ruled that such an action is not permissible as per the same text allowing the Aerodactyl ex evolution.
- Only those three cards, as well as future Omanyte, Kabuto, and Aerodactyl that don't evolve from Mysterious Fossil, are affected; a card such as Pokémon Breeder or Rare Candy can be used to play Omastar and Kabutops from any and all sets due to being able to evolve from any Omanyte or Kabuto, respectively.
- Additionally, the Reconstruction Poké-Power is not restricted in which Omanyte and Kabuto it can search for, as that power is not bound by evolution mechanics. As such, Buried Fossil can still search for Omanyte and Kabuto it can't evolve into.
- The German version of this card erroneously credits the illustrator as Katsura Tabata.
- This is one of very few Pokémon cards to not be a species of Pokémon. Unlike the others, it was printed in a main expansion and it can evolve into a species of Pokémon.
Origin
Fossils are items in the Pokémon games that can be revived into Pokémon. This card is not an item though, being a Pokémon instead. The Helix Fossil is featured in the illustration, along with what appears to be fossilized Kabuto. There are also some wing bones which could be related to Aerodactyl.
