Explotaro (Japanese: バクたろう Baktaro) was one of the Pokémon that Gold has received in the Pokémon Adventures manga.
History
As a Cyndaquil, it partnered up with Gold to fight Silver when he stole Professor Elm's Totodile, since Exlotaro wanted to reunite with its friend. Gold kept it afterwards and nicknamed it "Explotaro" because his mom would always tell Gold that his bangs were exploding but that Cyndaquil's back actually explodes. Explotaro evolved into a Quilava at the Goldenrod Daycare Center when Gold had to battle several strong Pokémon there thinking it was training, but was really training for the Pokémon in the Daycare. While Gold initially didn't think the job was so great, Explotaro's evolution changed his mind. It and later evolved into its final stage, Typhlosion, battling Lugia at the Whirl Islands. As a Typhlosion, it gave Gold the upper hand while fighting the Masked Man at the end of the GSC arc. Around the end of the Emerald arc, it learns Blast Burn, which it used against Guile Hideout.
