Slaking usually eat grass that is in reach of them. Slacking also eat fruit, but they just wait until the fruits fall down from the trees instead just climbing up and picking them.
In the anime
Slaking appears in Love, Petalburg Style, belonging to May's father, Norman, the Gym Leader of Petalburg City. In the following episode, Ash's Grovyle defeats it in battle, winning Ash the Balance Badge.
A giant Slaking appears in Slaking Kong, but it's really a robot controlled by Team Rocket.

- Slaking spends all day lying down and lolling about. It eats grass growing within its reach. If it eats all the grass it can reach, this Pokémon reluctantly moves to another spot.

- Wherever Slaking lives, rings of over a yard in diameter appear in grassy fields. They are made by the Pokémon as it eats all the grass within reach while lying prone on the ground.

Slaking's name is a combination of slack off, meaning to loaf around, and king. Its Japanese name is a combination of 樹懶 namakemono, sloth, and king.
