Ribbon

A ribbon is a special item which can be awarded to a Pokémon for a variety of reasons. Ribbons stay on a Pokémon, and can be checked in different ways depending on the game version.

Gameboy Advance ribbons

In Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, ribbons can be viewed through the PokéNav utility. There is no way of viewing them in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, where they are scarce.

Contest ribbons

There are ribbons for the Cool Contest, the Beauty Contest, the Cute Contest, the Smart Contest, and the Tough Contest. Each contest has a ribbon for each rank; a Normal Rank ribbon, a Super Rank ribbon, a Hyper Rank ribbon, and a Master Rank ribbon. A ribbon is awarded to a Pokémon chosen as a super sketch model.

Battle Tower ribbons

There are two ribbons for the Battle Tower found in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald. The first is awarded for clearing the Lv50 Battle Tower, the second for the Lv100 Battle Tower in Ruby and Sapphire, or Open Level Battle Tower in Emerald.

Effort ribbon

The Effort Ribbon is awarded to a Pokémon whose effort training is complete. The Effort Ribbon is given by a woman in Slateport City in Hoenn.

Pokémon League ribbon

Defeating the Champion of the Pokémon League in Hoenn or Kanto and entering the Hall of Fame will award this ribbon.

GameCube ribbons

In Pokémon Colosseum and XD, the fourth page of the Pokémon Summary screen is dedicated to showcasing awarded ribbons.

Purification ribbon

A ribbon is "awarded for clearing all difficulties" when a Shadow Pokémon has been purified.

Mt. Battle ribbon

A "100-straight Win Commemorative" ribbon is awarded upon completion of Mt. Battle from beginning to end.

DS ribbons

Contest ribbons

There is a ribbon for the Cool Contest, Beauty Contest, Tough Contest, Cute Contest, and Smart Contest for each of the Normal, Great, Ultra, and Master Ranks.

Julia - The Ribbon Lady

Each day of the week, a woman named Julia living in the far northeastern house in Sunyshore City will give players a ribbon when she is told a story. The ribbon corresponds to her mood and the story told on that day and will be given to whichever Pokémon is in the first party slot.
