I'm currently going through Bulbapedia to learn the Japanese names of Pokémon. I am fluent in Japanese but have never played a Pokémon game in the original language until recently. As I've been going through, I've noticed that many articles with Japanese name origin portions have a lot of superfluous information. Here in Slaking's article, we have
"Kekking may be a combination of 怠ける namakeru (to be idle), 欠勤 kekkin (absence), or 怠け者 namakemono (sloth) and king."
Namakemono does not mean the animal sloth, but rather a slothful person. Regardless, both namakeru and namakemono share only a single sound with the Japanese name Kekking. I feel it is much more likely that the name came from the given kekkin and will edit the page to reflect that. My knowledge of Japanese is not limitless, so if I am missing something please let me know. |

DP sprite
Is it just me who sees this, or is Slaking "digging for gold"?--KukiTalk 20:43, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yes it is.....--CoolPikachu! 21:21, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- Is it trivia worthy?--KukiTalk 21:26, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- Not really. People can just look at the sprite. It might be used to build on some other point such as in the behaviour section. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 18:53, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
- *Slaking's front and back sprites in Diamond and Pearl depict it picking its nose. Should that really be there? SD13 Simpsondude13>SD13 Talk 18:38, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
- Is it trivia worthy?--KukiTalk 21:26, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
WTF? Why does Slaking NEED a base stat total of 600? It already has a base stat total of 670...--Makupe 17:09, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
Ahem, I can't help but notice that the "picking its nose" trivia has added. I agree that it's not necessary, unless someone wants to add ANY unusual sprite pose to the trivia of any pokemon that has one. E.G. "Ludicolo's sprites in all generations depict it dancing"... We can tell. It shouldn't be added unless it has some significance, like Jynx's emerald sprite enforcing the theory that she is based off a fat lady. Absolution 09:49, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Hyper Beam/Giga Impact
Is it worth putting in the trivia that if Slaking uses Hyper Beam or Giga Impact the recharge turn combines with the truant turn - I.e after using Giga impact it only takes one turn before you can attack? - unsigned comment from Kaleidoscope (talk • contribs)
- Please remember to sign your posts with four tildes (~), and probably? felinoel 10:56, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
- And don't forget that if you're telling someone off about not signing, put the
{{unsigned}}
where their signature was meant to go. —darklordtrom 11:02, 2 May 2010 (UTC)- I can never recall the code for it... felinoel 11:35, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
- A little late on this, but that trivia seems more suited for the ability's article. - unsigned comment from Missingno. Master (talk • contribs) 02:18, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
- I can never recall the code for it... felinoel 11:35, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
- And don't forget that if you're telling someone off about not signing, put the
Pronounciation?
Should it be placed on the page that it is either slaking, has in 'I'm slaking off' or like slay-king? DB 20:54, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
Mummy
Should it be put in the Trivia on this page or Truant's page that the ability Mummy WILL override Slaking's ability, thus making it unstoppable? Carrottime 23:59, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
1. It is not unstopable. 2. That would be more fitting for the ability's page. Poisson14 00:18, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
R/S/E Back Sprite
The trivia section falsely says "In both the handheld and console games, Slaking is always seen lying on its left side with its left arm propping up its head." R/S/E are handheld games and, if you look at Slaking's back sprite in these games, it is lying on its right side with its right arm propping up its head. GrassSquid 20:50, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
Value of total stats
From this article, especially the Trivia, it sounds like the slaking is as strong as legendaries, but this is not true because of its ability, making it more on par with, for example, kingdra. I think this should be noted somewhere because it can cause confusion, especially for new or inattentive players which don´t look at its ability. Bulvik 17:37, 29 February 2012 (UTC).

Japanese Name Origin
