In The Legend of Thunder!, Marina used Wani-Wani to battle Jimmy's Beedrill after Pink was defeated. Jimmy then called Beedrill back and used his Typhlosion to battle against the Water-type Pokémon. During the battle, Marina was shown to be in sync with Wani-Wani's actions. Despite type disadvantage, Typhlosion managed to stand up to Wani-Wani's attacks.
Wani-Wani later made a cameo with its Trainer in the beginning of the movie Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea.
Diamond & Pearl series
It was revealed to have evolved into a Feraligatr during an internet broadcast of a Pokémon Contest in A Stand-Up Sit-Down!. It used Aqua Tail in an appeal round in conjunction with Pink during a double performance in Hearthome City.

Trivia
- The nickname Wani-Wani either comes from ワニノコ Waninoko, Totodile's Japanese name, or just from the Japanese word for crocodile, 鰐 wani.
- It is the only starter from The Legend of Thunder! that wasn't in its final form in its introduction, as Jimmy's Typhlosion and Vincent's Meganium are.
