Avignon Town (Japanese: アブニヨンの町 Avugnon Town) is an anime-exclusive location in Kalos. It is one of the settings of Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction. It is overlooked by a large castle.
Ash and his friends went to Avignon Town and in front of the castle Ash had a battle with Astrid and lost. Meanwhile, Diancie had come to the town in search of Xerneas. She was hunted down in the town's streets by Merilyn and Riot, who wanted to capture her for her ability of creating diamonds. After Ash's battle, Pikachu heard the noise of Merilyn and Riot attacking Diancie. Ash and Pikachu rushed to the site and jumped in front of Diancie to protect it from harm. While they distracted Merilyn and Riot, Diancie was able to escape with Clemont, Bonnie and Serena.
After spending some time with the group, Diancie was kidnapped by Team Rocket and taken to a clock tower. Like Merilyn and Riot, they wanted to use Diancie to create diamonds for them. Diancie soon created so many diamonds that they flooded the clock tower. Diancie was then freed by Millis Steel. Diancie was reunited with Ash and his friends, and they promised her to help her on her quest to search for Xerneas. Following this, the group and Diancie left Avignon Town.
In the manga
In the movie adaptations
Avignon Town appeared in Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction. Unlike the anime, only the battle between Ash's Hawlucha and Astrid's Absol was shown.
Trivia
- The castle of Avignon Town is based on the Château Frontenac in Quebec City. It also borrows heavy inspiration from the Palais des Papes, a palace overlooking the city Avignon which Avignon Town is based on.
