Evobox

Despite the fact that I believe that we should put branched evos on every page of the family (including the corrosponding one), I was under the impression that here on Bulbapedia we don't put them there. However, when I tried to remove the mention of Shedinja on this page (since it really kind of is just a branched evo), it was reverted with the reason that "TTE wants it this way". Way is that anyways?- unsigned comment from MisterE13 (talkcontribs)

You should ask him on his TP--RexRacer -talk 04:47, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
I'd argue for inclusion, seeing as Shedinja is created when Nicada evolves to Ninjask. — THE TROM — 05:12, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
But Nincada becomes Ninjask and then Nincada's (not Ninjask's) shell becomes the Shedinja. Alhtough, I think I did read that if Nincada's moveset is changed during the evolution, Shedinja's will be too.--MisterE13 05:18, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
No, once the evolution is started/complete, the moves are set (Ninjask learns a few flying moves when it evolves, I believe, none of which can be learned by Shedinja).
The main reason to list Shedinja on this page is for consistency, I would say. It's still a part of the evolution chain, even if it's not directly involved with Ninjask itself. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 08:17, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
But the issue here is that we don't list other branches of the chain for any other family - see Slowking or Gallade. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 08:32, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
Shedinja's here because Shedinja cannot exist without a Ninjask. Essentially it evolves OFF of Ninjask. It's complicated... I dunno. If a Ninjask gets a move upon evolution, and learns it, the Shedinja won't have it though? That's truly a case for having just Nincada → Ninjask... TTEchidna 08:41, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

What about keeping it in Shedinja's but not Ninjask's? *edit* I think I've figured it all out. Moves learned through evolution are learned during the process (when they glow in the show) by the end of Nincada's evolution, it's learned the new moves and become the two Pokémon. Like TTE said, a Shedinja cannot exist without a Ninjask however, a Ninjask can exist without a Shedinja thus, I believe we should remove it from Ninjask`s but not Shedinja's page.--MisterE13 21:36, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Sprite

In gen. 3 and 4, the back sprite has Ninjask with its wings 'folded' down towards its back, but the front sprite has the wings upward, as if to fly. No one on the corner got swagga like Mpcamel1729...modified from Paper Planes by M.I.A. 13:34, 26 February 2012 (UTC)

Only ninja to not know Water Shuriken

Is it trivia worthy that Ninjask is the only Pokémon based on ninjas that can't learn Water Shuriken? Water Shuriken was one of Greninja's signature moves in X & Y, and now Accelgor can learn it in ΩRαS. Is this worth mentioning? --PKMNAdventurer (talk) 22:23, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

Origin - Cicada Killer Wasp

I'm pretty sure Ninjask is inpired by the "Cicada Killer Wasp".

Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sphecius_speciosus

Here's a video (carrying a future Shedinja?): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMDl5WVcJeM

This also alters the Origin of Shedinja, somewhat, as it's not "just" a Cicada husk (as it says on Shedinja's page) but rather the remains of the host for Ninjask larvae. In other words, for the Ninjask (Cicada Killer) to be born, the Nincada (Cicada) had to die, and what's left is an empty shell and its ghost.

Thoughts? Raven-14 (talk) 20:44, 19 June 2017 (UTC)

Pretty interesting point of view, but I can't really buy it for several reasons. Most importantly, Ninjask looks much more like an adult cicada than a wasp, at least other than the coloration. Then there's the fact that none of the Pokedex entries implies such drastic thing happens, while they aren't subtle at all about Parasect's parasite mushroom. Finally, Ninjask is considered Nincada's "true" evolution, can produce Nincada Eggs, and unlike Shedinja, is the one who keeps Nincada's gender and nickname. Everything points out to Ninjask simply being an adult Nincada.--Den Zen 21:27, 19 June 2017 (UTC)
Interesting counter-points, but I'd argue a couple of them.
1 - Pokémon looks don't always match their real life counterparts. One example is Butterfree which has a mouth while real life Butterflies have a proboscis. They "fixed" that with Beautifly, though.
2 - The Pokédex argument is a non-issue. For instance, Remoraid evolves into Octillery, which is a quite drastic change, but neither of their Pokédex entries mentions it.
Your third and final point is quite valid, though. Ninjask eggs are Nincadas. However, one could argue that this is simply a simplification of the Pokémon game. Cicada Killer Wasps can't lay eggs without a Cicada host to begin with, so for another Ninjask to exist, so does another Nincada.
It may not be definitive proof, but I think the Origin section should include at least a mention of this possibility.
