It’s the season for our heroes’ favorite pastime: Pokémon Base! Professor Kukui has arranged a special lesson for them, complete with a guest coach: Oluolu, the star player of the Magikarp team that just won the Pro League season.
After the students’ game, Team Rocket shows up to demand a Pokémon Base battle—with the winning team getting the star’s autograph. Oluolu teams up with the students, and it’s a close match until he unleashes his secret weapon: his Snorlax partner’s Z-Move, Pulverizing Pancake!
In appreciation for a good game, Oluolu offers Jessie his autograph anyway—but Bewear charges through and carries Team Rocket off before she can accept!

At Professor Kukui's house, Ash, Rotom, Rockruff and Professor Kukui are watching Pokémon Base. They watch as the pitcher throws a ball at Gyarados who hits the ball with its tail which sends the ball flying into the wall. Pokémon Base player Oluolu takes his place to bat knowing for his team to win, he must get Gyarados and himself home to win the game. The ball is thrown and Oluolu swings his, hitting the ball and sending the ball out of the park, winning the game for his team. An excited Ash announces that he wants to play Pokémon Base, giving Professor Kukui. At School, Professor Kukui greets the class and they discuss the game. Professor Kukui surprises them by saying that Pokémon Base will be what today's class will all be about. Professor Kukui won't be teaching them but has invited Oluolu to come with his Snorlax. Samson Oak joins them, explaining that Oluolu graduated from the school as Oluolu introduces himself whilst making a pun.
Outside, Rotom provides a commentary with Kiawe, Turtonator, Mallow, Steenee, Lillie and Snowy one one team with Ash, Pikachu, Sophocles, Togedemaru, Lana and Popplio on the other. Professor Kukui, Oluolu and Samson Oak are acting as commentators with Oluolu saying that he modified the game. Kiawe starts the game by pitching his ball and Ash swings at misses the ball. Soon the teams switch with Pikachu on the pitcher's mound as Kiawe steps up to the plate. Pikachu throws the ball at Kiawe and he hits it. As the ball starts to fall to the ground, Kiawe fears that this will be a pop-up as Sophocles runs around and catches the ball, meaning Kiawe is out. Mallow hits the ball as Lana throws it at Popplio who creates a balloon which catches the ball, meaning that Mallow is out.
Steenee is the next batter and hits the ball but Togedemaru jumps into the air and catches the ball on its barbs. Ash's team are now batting and Pikachu is on the plate as Kiawe pitches the ball, Pikachu hits it with its tail. Lillie is determined to catch the ball but becomes scared as the ball approaches. The ball ball jumps out of her hand but is caught by Snowy. Kiawe pitches the ball towards Popplio who hits it. Mallow goes to catch the ball but misses, giving Ash the chance to head. Kiawe has Turtonator block him, leading Ash to touch Turtonator's spikes and causing them to explode. During the last inning, Ash's team is on the attack but another out will lose them the game. Kiawe pitches the ball, saying this will be the one that ends the game, Lana surprises everyone when she hits the ball hard, sending it out of the park and giving them a home run.
Outside the school, a disguised Team Rocket are walking past with Jessie holding a picture of Oluolu. James is surprised that she has an interest in Pokémon Base which Jessie doesn't care about as her heart belongs to Oluolu. Meowth reminds her that she is here to catch Pokémon, only to be hit by the ball. They run into the school where Jessie spots Oluolu. Unaware of Team Rocket's presence, Oluolu declares Ash's team as the winner as Kiawe can't believe they got beaten. Ash thanks him for the game as Jessie makes their presence known as Meowth throws the ball back to Ash before they recite their motto. Kiawe demands to know why Team Rocket are there, Jessie is keen to get Oluolu's autograph but they don't believe her. Oluolu gets involved and suggests they settle the dispute by having a game of Pokémon Base with his autograph going to the winning team and Jessie agrees.
Team Rocket talk tactics with James noting that the other team have a professional on their team but Jessie notes that they also have a slow amateur with Snorlax. Jessie manages to hit the ball despite spinning fast. Snorlax doesn't move to get the ball as Jessie starts running the wrong way before going the right way but Rockruff catches the ball at first, causing Jessie to be out. Soon Pikachu is batting with Mimikyu pitching. Mimikyu throws the ball hard towards Pikachu who dodges as the ball hits part of the school. Ash accuses Team Rocket of cheating, Jessie decides for a change of pitcher. Kiawe is now batting misses a ball, causing Kiawe to be struck out. Meowth chuckles at his performance, he has a contraption in his claws which with all the training he did is now coming in handy. Oluolu steps up to take his turn and hits the ball. Jessie misses the ball but throws it to James who catches as Oluolu runs past his base. Meowth vows to strike out the next batter as Snorlax steps up to the plate.
As Meowth throws the ball, it strikes Snorlax's bat and goes towards Mareanie who grab its. James calls out to Mareanie to throw the ball towards him but Mareanie runs over to James and hugs him affectionately. This causes the ball to be dropped as Oluolu makes it home. Meowth notices that Snorlax has yet to run and knowing if he can get Snorlax out, it is victory for them. Oluolu pulls out his secret weapon, a Z-Ring and powers up and has Snorlax use Pulverizing Pancake which sends Snorlax running for home as Meowth throws the ball towards Wobbuffet. Wobbuffet catches the ball, only to be flattened by Snorlax as Professor Kukui declares Snorlax safe.
Professor Kukui wraps up the game announcing the school has won as Jessie cries over not getting Oluolu's autograph only for Oluolu to come over and give her the autograph for a wonderful game but as Jessie goes to take the autograph, she along with the others are scooped up by Bewear who arrives to carry them off to its den, preventing Jessie from getting Oluolu's autograph. After watching Team Rocket go, Oluolu thanks everyone for bringing back memories from when he began playing Pokémon Base as he and Samson both make a pun.
