The chapter begins with Dawn, a rookie Pokémon Trainer, trying to catch a Pikachu... with her bare hands! She lunges for the Pokémon, but it leaps out of her grasp. Instead she falls onto a passing Grimer. As she stands up, wiping off the Grimer's slime, she hears someone ask what she is doing. The person asks if she has any Pokémon with her.
