History

Caterpie and Goh

Caterpie debuted in Working My Way Back to Mew! . Goh found it munching on a leaf, and, wanting to make it his first capture of the day, snuck up on it and threw a Poké Ball. This capture inspired Goh to obtain one Pokémon of every Bug-type species native to the Kanto region, which he achieved by the end of the day. Afterwards, it was seen with all of his other Pokémon before Professor Cerise suggested leaving it at his Laboratory.

In Panic in the Park!, Caterpie was one of the Pokémon that suffered from a lack of food at the Cerise Laboratory. It, along with Weedle, were threatened by Grimer after it accused them of eating more than their share. In the end, after the conflict grew worse, Caterpie joined the Laboratory's other Pokémon to help Goh's three Cascoon evolve safely into Dustox.

In Getting More Than You Battled For!, Caterpie used its String Shot to make a zip line for Goh and Ash to cross a river.

In JN102, Caterpie used its String Shot twice to help Goh descend deeper into the Seafoam Islands.

Personality and characteristics

Caterpie and Weedle

Caterpie was shown to enjoy staying active, participating in Mimey's kung fu exercises. It also expressed concern after Metapod was kicked by Scorbunny. It is shown to spend most of its time around other Bug-types since arriving at the park and is often seen next to Weedle. It does not enjoy battling, staying away from any form of conflict and growing upset if confronted.

Its String Shot is shown to be very durable and is often used as a means to help Goh navigate difficult terrain.
