Wimp Out (Japanese: にげごし Back Off) is an Ability introduced in Generation VII. It is the signature Ability of Wimpod.
Effect
This Ability effect may be in need of research. Reason: Can it be activated by losing HP due to Clangorous Soul? You can discuss this on the talk page. |
In battle
When a Pokémon with Wimp Out takes damage that lowers its HP below half of its maximum HP, it will flee (in wild battles) or switch out (in Trainer battles). If the Pokémon's HP is already below half, Wimp Out cannot activate (unless the Pokémon first restores HP).
Wimp Out will not activate if the Pokémon's HP falls below half due to hurting itself in confusion, but it will activate if the HP falls below half from all other damage (including Struggle recoil). It does not activate when the Pokémon's HP is lowered by a means other than damage (such as Pain Split, or cutting its own HP by using Substitute or Belly Drum or Curse). Wimp Out will not activate if the Pokémon's HP falls below half by a move affected by Sheer Force.
It will activate only after the last hit of multi-strike moves, even if the HP of the Pokémon with this Ability drops below half before the last hit. If this Ability activates due to being hit by U-turn or Volt Switch, the user of that move will not be switched out. This Ability will not activate if the Pokémon's HP falls below half while it is in the air during the semi-invulnerable turn of Sky Drop.
If the Pokémon falls below half HP and immediately consumes a Berry (such as a Sitrus Berry) to restore its HP above half, Wimp Out does not activate; however, if it falls below half and recovers back above half from a Shell Bell, Wimp Out will activate even after the Shell Bell recovery.
Trapping moves do not prevent Wimp Out from activating. Wimp Out will not activate in Trainer battles if the Pokémon with this Ability is its Trainer's only Pokémon left. Wimp Out will not activate on the player's Pokémon in wild battles during trials.
If the Pokémon with Wimp Out holds a Red Card or Eject Button, the item activates first. Dragon Tail and Circle Throw switch out Pokémon before the Ability activates.
Outside of battle
Wimp Out has no effect outside of battle.
