A Grunt is the underling of a villainous team. Each grunt can only be identified by the team they serve, and are not known to have a name, even after the introduction of names to Trainers in Generation II. Grunts of each team are:
- Team Rocket Grunts, the underlings of Team Rocket
- Team Rainbow Rocket Grunts, the underlings of Team Rainbow Rocket
- Team GO Rocket Grunts, the underlings of Team GO Rocket
- Team Magma Grunts, the underlings of Team Magma
- Team Aqua Grunts, the underlings of Team Aqua
- Team Galactic Grunts, the underlings of Team Galactic
- Team Plasma Grunts, the underlings of Team Plasma
- Team Flare Grunts, the underlings of Team Flare
