When held by a Pokémon, it raises its Cleverness in the primary round of a Pokémon Contest, the Visual Competition of a Super Contest, and the Introduction Round of a Contest Spectacular.

It boosts the "Smart" aspect of the holder in a Contest in Sinnoh. BWB2W2 An item to be held by a Pokémon. It boosts the Smart aspect of the holder in a Contest. XY An item to be held by a Pokémon. During a Contest, it raises the Smart aspect of the Pokémon holding it. ORAS SMUSUMPE SwShLA An item to be held by a Pokémon. During a contest, it raises the Clever aspect of the Pokémon holding it. BDSP An item to be held by a Pokémon. During a Super Contest Show, it raises the Cleverness of the Pokémon holding it. SV When a Pokémon holds this during a contest, it looks even cleverer than usual.
