In childhood, Roy's grandfather found a mysterious Poké Ball on the beach of his island. He kept it for years without knowing what it contained, until he gave it to his grandson. During that time, he often told Roy the stories of a mysterious Legendary Trainer.
Some time before the events of Pokémon Horizons: The Series, Roy's grandfather met Professor Friede. Many years later, when Roy's grandfather was already old, he was responsible for taking care of his grandson when his son and his wife had to travel for their work as sailors.
In The Future I Choose, it was revealed that he used to read Roy a book about the Ancient Adventurer when he was little.
Pokémon Horizons: The Series
Roy's grandfather first appeared in For Sure! 'Cause Sprigatito's with Me!, greeting his grandson in the morning, who was sweeping the front yard.
When Brave Olivine was forced to land on the island in The Treasure After the Storm!, he was asked by Friede about materials to repair the Brave Olivine, but they were interrupted by another island resident, who revealed that the Pokémon on the island were out of control.
