Does the Magikarp from the Magikarp salesman in the Pokémon Center by Mt. Moon have any advantages over a regular Magikarp? File:Ani164MS.gifShinyTalk | ContribsFile:Ani408MS.gifFile:Ani410MS.gif 00:50, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
Well, you don't need to bother fishing? :P --Vladek
- Yeah, and by fishing you waste $200, while an estimate (to me) the idiot sells you Magikarp for $500...File:Ani475MS.gif Agent 448δ | DP | ☆File:Ani282MS.gif 10:46, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- But does it have any other advantages, besides not having to fish? File:Ani164MS.gifShinyTalk | ContribsFile:Ani408MS.gifFile:Ani410MS.gif 12:20, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- I really doubt that, and I think that the scammer shown in the anime that keeps on selling Magikarp is based on that guy. TheBlazikenMaster 21:03, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- Well, that Magikarp really doesn't have any advantages both in the animé and in the game, as far as I tested. The stats are the same
uselessones, and the animé one is useless, as far as James is concerned. XD Sang'gre Habagat- Well, remember. You can't get the Old Rod until Vermilion, you spend at least $200 on Poké Balls, which don't have a sure chance of nabbing it, and then you have to train that Magikarp while training for an upcoming match with a Template:Type2 Gym Leader. So yes, there is an advantage. You get all of the extra time to train the Karp. TTEchidna 04:40, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- Haha. You've got a point, TTEchidna. ^^ Sang'gre Habagat 07:57, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- It is done so you can get Gardados before getting the fishing rod. File:Ani493MS.gifZanderFile:Ani493MS.gif 12:24, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
- But what's the use? You know Magikarp's useless. It takes a while to train it. So just wait for the fishing rod, I say! You get the rod for free, go and fish! The Pokemon near the Magikarp salesmen are too tough for training a Magikarp. FireHazard 01:58, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
- Magikarp does suck, but it evolves into a Gyarados which is a powerful Pokémon. TheBlazikenMaster 12:06, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, I find that with enough patience and training, you can evolve the Mt. Moon Magikarp before reaching Bill's house at the earliest. - unsigned comment from Missingno. Master (talk • contribs)

" How do you need that cited? It's the very first foreign dex entry you get."
This is how: There is no specific information about which game this trivia is referring to. Trivia sections should have useful information, and I don't really find this useful if we don't include where whoever posted that trivia got that information from. No I don't mean cite it like they do on Wikipedia, I just want mention of the game this foreign etnry is from. And I also believe this trivia is misleading. Germans dub movies, so why not rewrite the video games? TheBlazikenMaster 20:30, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Question about the German Magikarp.
Is it possible to get a German entry of Gyarados when I evolve it? TheBlazikenMaster 19:51, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think so D: Sorry Takoto タコト| サソデイ = 愛 19:59, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- Why don't you try to evolve that Magikarp? Palkia38 06:14, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
- Not in DP... Pt however... TTEchidna 18:16, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
- Is Pt supposed to stand for Platinum? If so, I got another question. How do you know that? The game isn't even in English yet. TheBlazikenMaster 18:20, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
- But it's out in Japanese, and it works on that version too! These features aren't just added on for us, you know... Flicky1991
- Yeah, but I'd expect another Asian language to appear in the Japanese version, since Japan is located in Asia. TheBlazikenMaster 20:04, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Swift Swim is the ability of Magikarp in every Generation. But it never rains in Gen I! Was there another ability in Gen I? - Hazardous FIRE! 04:05, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- Uh ablities weren't introduced until gen 3 soo it wouldn't have mattered Dion24 06:18, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
If you're posting things like that, I don't think you sould be posting anything until you've learned a little bit about the games (no offense). Diachronos 17:46, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
Bounce
Magikarp can learn Bounce from the move tutor in Pokémon Platinum. If you don't believe me, go here and look at the tutor list. --Baby G (talk to me) (see my edits) 00:38, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
- I checked and still don't believe you. How do you know they're not wrong or being mistaken? A site ran by a limited amount of people can be wrong sometimes. I would like to see a better proof than this. Serebii is a great site, but I know it has been wrong sometimes, so it's not perfect. TheBlazikenMaster 00:44, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I at least know that Gyarados can learn it, because one of my friends traded me a Gyarados with Bounce that works on PBR. Maybe I'll get him to try to teach a Magikarp Bounce and see if it works for him or not. --Baby G (talk to me) (see my edits) 20:52, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
- It's true. Maybe it should be noted that ChoiceBounceKarp is going to be a serious contender in the metagame. Vaati000 01:38, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
- Nobody else is denying it, but think of it this way. Isn't it strange that a Pokémon that weak can learn Bounce? Sure, it makes sense since Magikarp can bounce around, but what I have hard times believing is such a weak Pokémon can learn a move with 85 base damage. TheBlazikenMaster 15:17, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
- Come to think of it several weak Pokémon can learn strong moves. Let's face it, things change, and there is nothing to do about it. Only legendaries keep their signature moves forever, eventually other Pokémon can learn some other Pokémon's signature move. It's kinda like the fact for weak Pokémon, eventually all Pokémon will learn good moves. TheBlazikenMaster 15:25, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Frowning Magikarp.
Magikarp's Platinum sprite is frowning because it's not in that game... TorchicBlaziken (talk) 18:25, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Magikarp base speed
Sorry, double post. But I have my Magikarp right in front of me,and it says in her stats "Speed - 116". What do you mean by "Due to its low stats (Speed, however, at 80, being the highest)",her status screen clearly says 116? Lovely Rose 23:10, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- Base stats =/= actual stats. The Dark Fiddler - Nos hablamos? 23:11, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
Oh..Okay then! Just making sure Lovely Rose 23:14, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
Speed stat = [((IV + 2 * Base + (EV/4)) * Level/100) + 5] * Nature, where IV is the IV in that specific stat, Base is the base stat, and nature is either 0.9 (for one that lowers) or 1.1 (for one that raises). With a neutral nature and absolute crap for IVs (a 0 in Speed, lowest you can get), your Magikarp's Speed at level 50, without any training would be 85. However, I assume it's not yet level 50, at least slightly trained, and doesn't have a 0 in its IVs for Speed. The base stats give you an idea of where the stats will fall (such as, your Magikarp's not gonna likely have 100+ Attack until sometime around level 70) but do not state the exact stats. Turning Magikarp to Mew
The text says "A glitch in the early Japanese games, Red, Green, and Blue, allowed players to transform their Magikarp into a Mew. However, this Mew was not registered in the Pokédex, did not have the same stats nor moves, and caused some major glitches to the player's items pack." Is this actually true? If so, what is the glitch out of interest? Bardock 23:07, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
Trivia
I deleted a bunch of trivia that stated rules with exceptions (i.e., it appears with Gyarados in the anime, except in X, Y, Z, and it couldn't fill its movelist until it could.) Also a feebas comparison. Those aren't really trivia bits in the sense of 'oh, this is interesting.' They're just...random, compiled facts. -- evkl (need to talk?) 05:40, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
Wait a minute...
If Pidgeotto can catch and eat Magikarp, why can't Team Rocket? After all, he DID attempt to eat it. ΘρtιmαtumTalk 16:25, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
