This card was first available as a Holofoil Nintendo Black Star Promo, and was given to participants of the Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire Challenge, held at several locations across the United States in August 2003. A Non Holofoil version was subsequently distributed in the October 2003 issue of Nintendo Power magazine. This print features a Dot Code strip for use with the e-Reader. In Australia, another Non Holofoil version, this time lacking the Dot Code strip, was later distributed in an issue of the kids magazine, K-Zone.
