Power items are held items that award a Pokémon additional specific EVs whenever the Pokémon would normally earn EVs in battle, but halves Speed of the Pokémon while it holds the item. They all debuted in Generation IV.
----
EV-enhancing items are items which enhance the EVs gained when a Pokémon is defeated. All of them halve the Speed of the Pokémon holding them in battle while they are being held.

These items' effects are doubled by the effect of Pokérus. For example, if a Chikorita with Pokérus that holds a Power Lens defeats a Haunter, that Chikorita would gain 12 EV points in Special Attack. Two would be from defeating the Haunter, four would come from the Power Lens, and the remaining six would be from the Pokérus's doubling effect. However, a Pokémon holding the Exp. Share will not gain any of these boosts, and unless already infected with Pokérus, will only receive the base EV yield of the defeated Pokémon. In Generation VI, the Exp. Share was made into a Key Item, meaning that Pokémon who receive experience from the Exp. Share can also take advantage of any held EV-enhancing items.

In Under the Pledging Tree!, a set of Macho Braces was one of the items offered to Ash by a market vendor in Coumarine City after Ash had wondered out loud what presents he should buy for an upcoming festival.

Trivia
Trivia
*In The Path to the Pokémon League, A.J.'s Pokémon are shown to wear something called a "Strength Intensifier" which looks like a Macho Brace.
* These items, particularly the fact that they halve the holder's Speed, may have been inspired by the Macho Brace, an item introduced in Generation III that doubles all EVs a Pokémon gains but halves its Speed while held.

If a Pokémon holding a Power item gains experience from a battle, the Power item awards it additional EVs in a specific stat (in addition to the EVs it would normally earn). From Generation IV to VI, they grant 4 extra EVs; in Generation VII onward, they grant 8 EVs. The EVs granted by Power items are doubled by the effect of Pokérus.

Additionally, any Pokémon holding a Power item has its Speed halved while it is holding the item.

From Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver onward, if either Pokémon in the Pokémon Day Care or Pokémon Nursery holds a Power item, that parent passes down its IV in that respective stat to Eggs it produces; HP for Power Weight, Attack for Power Bracer, and so on.

Acquisition

Power items can normally be purchased with Battle Points at battle facilities.

In Generation VI, all of the Power items could be obtained from the PokéMileage Club minigame Graffiti Eraser.

In Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, they can be purchased with BP at the Battle Royal Dome, but not at the Battle Tree. In Pokémon Sword and Shield, they can be purchased from the BP Shop in Hammerlocke instead of the region's respective battle facility.

In Generation IX, all of the Power items are purchasable from the General Goods section of Delibird Presents in Mesagoza, Levincia, and Cascarrafa for $10,000 each.

Trivia

 • These items, particularly the fact that they halve the holder's Speed, may have been inspired by the Macho Brace, an item introduced in Generation III that doubles all EVs a Pokémon gains but halves its Speed while held.
