Diamond & Pearl Cloning

In diamond and pearl, there seems to be a cloning glitch via GTS. Here are the steps from what I've heard from on the serebii.net forums.

1: Log onto wi-fi via GTS 2: Offer pokemon on the GTS 3: While it gives the waiting message, look at the bottom right at the clock on the message. When it turns 7 and a half times, turn off the DS. 4: Go back to the GTS. There should be a clone on the GTS, waiting to be traded and one where it was originally.

I, myself, haven't done this, but people on the forums claim that it works. - unsigned comment from GreenAiden555 (talkcontribs)

Oh wow, I just found this site and I have something that I've been wanting to share about generation 2 cloning for a while now. Okay here's my story (I have a witness to it but frankly, believe it or not, I dont really care): One day I was cloning my suicune and wanted to see if I could clone more than one pokemon by just depositing another with it. Sure enough it worked. The other pokemon was a tyrogue. So here I was, with 2 tyrogues and 2 suicunes. I decided to go train one of them to evolve them into a Hitmontop (which I had really wanted). So I started leveling it up, and this is where the strange stuff begins. It began learning the moveset of my suicune! I don't know why but I specifically remember it only learning suicune moves. It was on pokemon crystal that I tried this. Since then my crystal version (along with my gold and 2 silvers) has stopped working for no apparent reason. I don't remember if I did some extra step or something as it was done 3 or so years back... Any info on what happened to me would be much appreciated. -PyroSprite- - unsigned comment from Pyrosprite (talkcontribs)

I can't clone in Diamond. Why? I followed the steps and get the message but no clone. -Mr.lol - unsigned comment from Mr.lol (talkcontribs)

Emerald Cloning Risk

I've heard rumors that when doing this trick often you will get a 'The internal battery has run dry. The game can be played. However clock-based events will no longer occur.' Can anybody vouch for this or even debunk it. Thanks! --Phoenix 23:52, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Never mind on this, I decided to go ahead and test this on my Emerald and it indeed doesn't cause the aforementioned message to be displayed. --Phoenix 00:25, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
It did on my game, it just means that events like the water not rising in the Shoal Cave. TESHTALK 16:41, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Ooh scary lol. TESHIGIGAS 16:46, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

The only way you can make a Pokémon or item disappear is by depositing something in while performing the glitch. This actually proves useful for getting rid of bad eggs and the like. --Shiningpikablu252 16:54, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
Meh, I accidentally destroyed my Kyogre while doing so. It's the Θρtιmαtum♏Talk|Links03:29 4 Jun 2008

Hmm...I don't think anything happens when you do this glitch correctly (except getting a cloned Pokémon!). I've cloned my latios twice, and my groudon, kyogre, lombre, and aipom once. Rayquaza is next. If anything strange happens, I'll be sure to report back. SP 22:37, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

Emulators

Do we want to add how to clone with emulators? It's a simple save state procedure.Fizzmaister 06:23, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

I'd say yeah, alot of people play on emulators nowadays so it would be useful information. --Cjhard 08:08, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
You can do it on emulators such as Visual Boy Advance, but you have to use actual game saves, not save states. Baby G 17:17, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Generation II Cloning

I was once able to clone a Pokemon with a Generation II game using the Generation I cloning trick (the one with the link cable). It works if the Pokemon that is being cloned is being transferred from a Gen 2 to a Gen 1 game, not the other way around. The Gen 2 games were designed to combat the glitch so that if the other player shuts off the trade prematurely, it doesn't go though. But the Gen 1 maintains the glitch no matter what game you are using. It also worked once between two Gen 2 games because our link cable was faulty. Also, does anyone know if the Generation II method of cloning works with Crystal, or just Gold and Silver? PsychicWaterMaster 18:38, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

It does work on Crystal, but it's very hard. I've only successfully done it once on Crystal, while it's worked every time on my Gold. Baby G 17:16, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
I don't have crystal but I know how to clone pokémon on Crystal. You must have only 5 pokémon in your party, including the one you want to trade, then go through the normal procedure.I don't know if it works or not,and I can't test it out because, like I said,I don't have Crystal.I also don't know if you can use less than five.--Owlwinds 02:01, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
Yes, it's like you said. Except, you also have to time it absolutely perfectly. On Gold and Silver, you can shut it off any time between when it says "DON'T" and "POWER". But on Crystal, it has to be exactly when it finshes saying "SAVING". If you're even a split second late or early, it won't work. Baby G 02:47, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

D/P cloning doesn't always work. It wont clone for me.

I've spent three hours now trying to clone one Pokémon, on Diamond and...nothing. I've used both methods, and with the first one, i've tried turning it off at every bit of the clock. D/P cloning doesn't always work, my conclusion |: Ether that or my games just a faggot. *goes off to try and clone some more* Takoto タコト| サソデイ = 愛 03:28, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure it works. I've tried it on many games so far and there seems to be no problem. I bet your game works, but it's just that there is a problem with your connection. Looking at the WLAN light is MUCH easier. Sometimes it takes be one try, but one time, when I was cloning your Lugia, it took a while...so it all depends. Just keep trying, you'll get it. It took me a whole evening to learn to do it, so don't feel bad.--☆Tavisource 03:38, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
I can't look at the WLAN light...it's next door D| I steal wireless of Next door because i'm too poor to pay for it myself. *keeps trying* Takoto タコト| サソデイ = 愛 03:40, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
Well, if you're that far, it will be merely impossible, but there is a small chance it will work. I guess you'll have to count on luck, so good luck!--☆Tavisource 03:44, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
It worked! :3 But the only problem is, i only cloned it cause there was a Shiny, level 100 Altaria on the GTS that i was gonna trade it for, and now the Altaria is gone... *cries* Takoto タコト| サソデイ = 愛 03:45, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm sorry; but there could be a chance that it is not legit. Once, I found a level 100 shiny speed forme Deoxys, and the GTS ended up cutting off the trade because it wasn't legit.--☆Tavisource 05:46, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

How to clone in Diamond and Pearl

Well, many people believe that cloning in D/P isn't possible. But, I've cloned my Pokémon many times. Here's how my technique goes:

1: Log onto Wi-Fi. 2: Offer the Pokémon you want to clone. 3: Ask an impossble Pokémon you want, Like a Lv.9 and under Palkia. 4: When it says "Checking GTS status..." you should see the little clock on the right. Count how many time the clock turned. 5: When the offer starts, you should see your offered Pokémon "flying." 6: Hit "SUMMARY" and take back your Pokémon. 7: Do the process again three to four times. 8: Also, list dow how many times the little clocked turned every time you offered. 9: The pattern should look like this: 1st Attempt=10.5 2nd Attempt=10.0 3rd Attempt=11.0 10: In your 4th Attempt, you would likely shut the DS off in 10.5 seconds depending on the timing. 11: Perform the 4th Attempt. If done correctly, you achieved the cloning glitch successfully.

Here's my way to clone. Hope it works! Palkia38 09:39, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Just to tell everyone, the cloning on diamond and pearl is dangerous! I've tried the GTS version of cloning but it deleted my save file and I had 473 pokémon obtained in my national dex. I really recommend not cloning on diamond and pearl, but hey I'm not your dad so go ahead if you want to. Pokemaster11 22:00, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Oh yes, do not ask for a low-level legendary. just ask for another impossible trade, not involving legends, like a Lv.3 Salamence.

Palkia38 09:42, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

I found a way of cloning completely accidental on platinum. What you need to do is offer a pokēmon in the GTS and when you think someone swaped it you enter the GTS wait until it says 'Checking GTS status..'. Wait for a while and then disconnect at Your connection point. After this it will say something like 'error occured, will load last saving point, press A to continue'.You must press A or else you will lose your saved file. After you should turn off the DS. Now the pokēmon you asked for should be in your party or box and will still be in the GTS. I'd like if someone else could comfirm this in Diamond or Pearl Wheelz7779 21:45 25 October

Cloning methods and whether they belong on the talk page

Two users, User:Politoed666 and User:Hfc2x, have expressed concern that Bulbapedia is being used as a vehicle for cheaters to share their secrets. Discuss. --Raijinili 21:13, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Issue

One time while i was cloning Lugia on Silver, it became lvl 1. Anyone else have this happen? It was pretty cool to have a lvl 1 Lugia, but strange at the same time. CherryParanoia 00:40, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

My Pokémon ranch?

is it possible to clone in My Pokémon Ranch by copying the save files to other wiis and then taking the Pokémon off? just a thought that randomly occurred to me. 1ted59 21:29, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

I know that copying save files doesn't work in the Gamecube games (the save files are locked and cannot be moved or copied without some sort of hack). I'd imagine the same treatment is given to the Wii games, although I'm unable to test it. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 21:47, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
Wii save data can be locked in the same fashion as Gamecube save data. Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii lock the primary save files for their respective games to the flash memory, prohibiting it from being moved to an SD card. Although I don't have my Wii connected online myself (and even if I did, My Pokémon Ranch has a huge turn-off which would keep that game off my want list--and no, it's not the lack of a Platinum update), I'd imagine savefile locks can work the same way for WiiWare games the same way it does for disc games...--Shiningpikablu252 00:26, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Adding "In the Anime..."

Should we add attempts of cloning from the show[movie] into this article as a sort of "In the Anime" section similar to those in moves?Dark Boye 22:44, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Look at the categories; I highly doubt that cloning in the anime was the result of an unintended process that was preformed by a video game :D --TruePikachu 23:53, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

'Cloning' Pokémon via the Pokéwalker

Can somebody please elaborate on how to perform this? Even though the game apparantly removes the clone when trying to recieve it. --Chickasaurus 12:18, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Never mind, found out a day after the original question. --Chickasaurus 17:15, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
Could you share for other people wondering the same thing? :D --Pyritie 23:13, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

Does anyone know if this would work? Do the pokéwalker cloning thing and while the transferred pokémon is in the walker, stick the one on the DS into the GTS/trade it off. Then return the pokémon in the walker back to the DS. Could you then get the pokémon out of the GTS and have it not be deleted? --Pyritie 23:13, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

Tried it myself. Traded the original to my pearl cart but when I tried to get the clone out of the pokewalker, it "released it back into the wild". Aw dang. --Pyritie 13:29, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Should the GTS spoofing method be mentioned here?

Basically, it's a method where the player configures his/her DS's Wi-Fi settings so that its primary DNS server goes to an IP address of the player's choice, which is typically the user's computer, as opposed to Nintendo's official GTS server. From there, the IP address that the user entered (for simplicity's sake, let's assume it's the user's computer) can pretend to be a GTS server (with the right software) and send/receive Pokémon of the user's liking. Since there's no limit to what the GTS spoofing software can send out to the user's DS, it can send the same Pokémon over and over, thereby cloning it. Shouldn't this be mentioned here? --Blaziken257 20:14, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

Cloneing redirects here, shouldn't there be an artical on actual cloneing in the Pokémon world?

Actual biological cloning exists in a fair amount of Pokémon media (see: Anime Mewtwo, fossil Pokémon). Shouldn't we have an article on it? --Deuxhero 20:57, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

Yes. Feel free to create a page at cloning. --SnorlaxMonster 06:45, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
Would "Cloned Pokémon" or "Cloning in Pokémon" be a better title? —darklordtrom 07:29, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
I think it is implied that it is "in Pokémon". Cloned Pokémon would be good for the Pokémon from M01. --SnorlaxMonster 07:40, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Cloning in Pokemon Coloseum Issue

  • Although it says the Pokemon Colosseum/XD do not require the game to be saved after trading, it actually saves automatically after a trade is complete. I tried it out for myself, and I wasn't able to clone my Pokemon AT ALL. In fact, If you try to shut the GameCube off or reset it while saving, both games get corrupt save files and previous data have to be loaded. So basically, nothing changes. --Kid Sonic 01:38, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

second trade clone glitch

First off, I'm surprised that no one else has mentioned this at all, considering how old it is.

This glitch I myself can confirm existed in Generation I (RBY), though I think it persisted into generation 2 (unsure about this).

Anyways, this glitch was really in essence the "safest" way to clone Pokémon.

I personally refer to this as the "double trade" method as thats how it is performed. It's best explained by example. Say you traded a Charmander (from Blue) for a Pidgey (from Red). Then you wanted to trade Pidgey to Yellow for lets say a Venomoth. Now your games will play fine up until you try to send Pidgey to Yellow; at which point the games will both freeze and require resetting.

Upon restarting the games, you will find that Pidgey has vanished, and that BOTH games now have the Venomoth you tried to trade.

I don't know how the games would react if you tried to send back the cloned Pokémon to the game it originated from (my guess is that it would corrupt the data in the game). Like I said at the top, I myself confirmed the existance of this glitch (through some experimentation of my own with my RBY games)

Anyways, thats how it works.

GokuSS400 20:57, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

So you're saying that the game freezes because you trade a Pokémon from Red to Blue or Blue to Red, then try and trade it to Yellow from the game it wasn't caught on? --SnorlaxMonster 06:23, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

Cloning Method Discoverd For Gen5

Information released here: http://www.pokemonworld.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=83&t=6699 Basially you offer a Pokémon. Go on the Pokécheck GTS and your Pokémon instantly returns but the offer is still on the wi-fi so you get another game adn trade with it. Then you have the same Pokémon on both games. Lucky V4.0 13:31, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

Sorry for the delayed response, I did see this earlier and put it off, but DNS manipulation is not a glitch. It is a form of manipulation, but not a glitch contained in the Pokémon games. Also, we name glitches based on what they are, not their discovers. --SnorlaxMonster 09:44, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
I understand what you're saying, however it's not the same as using Pokécheck cloning or event distributing GTSes. They all require you or someone else to use a computer whereas the method I posted does not. 'DNS abuse' is quite a broad phrase and not all DNS abuse is considered legit. I know not everybody will like the idea of 'Pyro Cloning' either (or what ever it will be called) but what I'm suggesting is rather than the phrase DNS abuse we should put 'Pyro Cloning' as that requires no other programs and could be considered a loop hole or an oversight of Game Freak for not anticipating sub-GTSes. Either that or nothing until more people become aware of it and people can decide as a whole whether it is legit or not.Lucky V4.0 17:35, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
But it works because someone else does have a computer. Whoever is running the 'Pokécheck' GTS must have a computer for this to work. You are using an external device that was not intended to be used with the games, so it is not a true glitch, in the same way causing 'glitches' using a GameShark does not count. --SnorlaxMonster 09:24, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Renaming "DNS Abuse" to "DNS Manipulation"

I personally feel that calling it "DNS Abuse" makes it sound like you're hacking/cracking hardware other than your own system. Where as DNS Manipulation, to me sounds more like you're modifying your own data and settings. I'm not trying to start an argument on if it's cheating...I just feel that calling it abuse sounds more to me like a person would be cracking the Nintendo Wi-Fi servers to have Pokémon sent to them as opposed to just running a python script on their own computer and network. --NPSage 15:11, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

The information I supplied about cloning using My Pokémon Ranch was removed. That's OK, but that information should be available to people. Which section should that go in? --Bokeatong (talk) 11:26, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

I don't really know if we have a place for it. We don't typically go into details about things like the homebrew channel or alternate GTSes. --SnorlaxMonster 13:48, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
