Pokemon to real world maps
I can understand not wanting the spinoff regions due to clutter on the individual region pages, which is why on the Japanese regions image I left the side regions out and instead added them to a separate upload.
The separate upload, North America, and Europe images are only used on the Pokémon_world_in_relation_to_the_real_world article, it could be said that those images exist only to be used on that article. As a result, I think the content of those images should accurately reflect the contents of that article. You may think that the spinoff regions are vague in location, but the Pokémon_world_in_relation_to_the_real_world article gives descriptions of their locations, so the images on the article should include them at those locations. Similarly the Pokémon_world_in_relation_to_the_real_world article lists the Sevii Islands as a subheading under the Kanto region, so they should be considered a part of Kanto in the image.
Zooming out the maps to include the entire continent or whole of Sakhalin is something that can be done and I think is a logical choice, but I think the spinoff regions should be included in those maps rather than left out. The only region I understand wanting to leave out is Kitakami since while its location is known its size is unclear, but representing it with a dot like you did in an older version of the map is a good compromise I think. - Thank you for answering. First, I appreciate you for adding the global comprehensive map. Making the regions colored in rather than just boxed in looks better.
- The reason for your original map being removed by HoennMaster was "The side regions have never had their basis confirmed and aren't as obvious as the main regions. We shouldn't include this world map as it would appear to be presenting it as fact when a lot of it is speculation. It should be discussed on talk page first". I think that's a valid reason as to why they shouldn't be included. I think that because the side/spinoff regions are a separate entity from the main series (whether the main series references it or not), that they should be separated. That way, the reader won't be confused as to whether the region is a side region or a main series region. And moving them would remove excess clutter. I think the best compromise is to make a separate map for side/spinoff regions and place it in the appropriate section here.
- I don't think it's a problem to post the North America/Europe maps in their respective region pages in the same way as the Japanese regions. The Europe/North America maps are new and the original Japan map had been there for over a decade, so it's safe to assume that they can be placed there as well.
- In terms of the Sevii islands, I don't mind merging it with the Kanto region, however in the same page, Sevii_Islands#Relation_with_Kanto it is stated that it is not clear as to whether or not it is in Kanto.
- In terms of Kitakami, I don't mind leaving it in or not, however, it was discussed to keep it off the image.
- In terms of the map itself, I think your original choice for using mapchart as the blank map (with some edits) is sufficient enough. However, I think it's best to leave all of Europe and North America in because it's a map comparing the regions to the continents rather than a localized comparison (It's not comparing only Western Europe, for example). I think adding South America to a North America map is too excessive (Hawaii is generally part of the US, so I think it's okay to leave it. That way, there's room for expansion to future generations as well as being localized enough.
- Personally, I think the current maps are fine, but I can make the edits to the map if need be.Pipcrew (talk) 21:34, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- If you wouldn't mind, for future edits to the image, it's preferable if you discussed it in the talk page as HoennMaster stated. I would be willing to make the above changes if they were discussed first. Making a major change like adding spin-off regions (to which the location compared to real life is more speculation than the locations for the core regions) requires discussion first. It would be preferable to keep the side/spin-off regions on a separate map from the core regions for clarity and simplicity. (looking at the map, part of Almia would be part of Sinnoh and it would be part of Hisui in this map ). There's no reason not to have the spin off regions in its own separate map in it's appropriate section. I think having them in a separate map is the compromise, but as HoennMaster stated, including them in the map would present the spin off regions as fact rather than speculation. The descriptions in the page are more speculation than actual fact as stated in the top of the page. Pipcrew (talk) 10:12, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
