The Element Pokédex books are a series of 12 books in the shape of different Poké Balls. Each book features all the Pokémon of that element up until the end of Generation III. All of the books are based on the anime, though some information from the games is used, such as mentions of items and characters who haven't appeared in the anime, such as Janine.
All Generation I Pokémon in the Hoenn Pokédex use their original series artwork, while all others use their artwork from Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire. Gyarados and Mew are the exceptions to this rule.
