Synopsis

Template:Incomplete synopsis Ash, Brock, and Dawn are walking with Johanna, enjoying the festival. Suddenly, Barry runs into Ash. Barry challenges Ash to a battle and they run off. Johanna tells Dawn to go with them and she runs off after them. Sayer asks if Brock will watch his stand for him, which Brock agrees to. Heracross and Pikachu are battling when a Xatu, flies over. Dawn looks it up on her Pokédex and Barry runs off following it with Ash and Brock in pursuit. As they catch up they see a big tent up ahead with a Grumpig and a Mime Jr are outside. A clown walks out and Ash, Dawn and Barry are caught up in a bright light.

Ash wakes up in a field of tall grass. He stands up and sees a Nidoking and a Nidoqueen battling. Ash wonders why they are so big then a big group of Combee fly over. An Aipom runs up a tree and they are all bigger than normal. A Skorupi walks by along with a pack of Mightyena. Ash runs after them but falls down a hole. As he gets back out a Natu runs by and Ash climbs out of the hole to follow it.

Dawn is standing along a river, calling for Ash and Piplup. She sees a Natu hop by and looks it up on her Pokédex. She wants to battle it but her Poké Balls are not working.

Barry is sitting on the edge of a cliff, watching a herd of Tauros and Dodrio graze.

Natu begins giving each person flashbacks of their past starting with Barry's first encounter with his Heracross, Dawns first day of her journey, and when Ash got attacked by Spearow.

Trivia

  • Professor Oak's Pokémon lecture: Castform.
    • Professor Oak's lecture returns after a 10 episode hiatus. Interestingly, it returns one episode after Professor Oak makes an appearance in the anime.
  • Palmer makes his debut appearance exactly 100 episodes after Cynthia made hers. Coincidently, they both made cameos in Arceus and the Jewel of Life, and they shared the same battle music in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
  • This is the first episode featuring Barry where his Empoleon does not appear.
  • Interestingly, this episode aired the same week that Stopped in the Name of Love! aired in America. Both episodes had a scene where Dawn and Piplup had to deal with a group of Ariados, which also occurred in Following a Maiden's Voyage!, when Dawn and Piplup became friends.
  • The dub title of this episode is a play on The Beatles song and album, "Magical Mystery Tour".
  • During the flashback of when Barry caught his Heracross, he was wearing a straw hat. In a flashback on The Ties that Bind, Ash was wearing a similar straw hat. Coincidentelly, in both flashbacks, both Ash and Barry were beginning Pokémon Trainers, and trying to catch Pokémon (Ash was fishing, and Barry was putting Honey on a Sweet Honey Tree).
  • The japanese used incorrect scenes displaying the past between the meet up of Ash and Pikachu with the Spearow. This could have been caused due to the switch from 4kids to PUSA.
  • Many people believed that Piplup had long forgotten the move Bide due to it's major hiatus.

Errors

File:NidoqueenError.png
Nidoqueen's lower jaw
Dawn's missing yellow hairclip
  • Nidoqueen's lower jaw is colored blue instead of cream.
  • In one scene, the Poké Ball symbol on Dawn's hat is darker than it should be.
  • In that same scene, one of Dawn's yellow hair clips is missing.
