Aibo (Japanese: エーたろう Etaro), known as Ataro in Chuang Yi's translations, is an Ambipom owned by Gold in the Pokémon Adventures manga.
History
Aibo is one of the family Pokémon at Gold's home in New Bark Town that Gold grew up with. Aibo has also been known to help around in Gold's house. Like Gold, he is mischievous. Aibo's tail allows him to hold items and use many different tricks and tactics in battles. He is capable of swimming as seen in Number One Donphan In battle, he is mostly used for distraction, not being very powerful, though he proved to be a critical asset in narrowing down the evil Masked Man's identity by scraping off a badge remnant from his clothes with his Scratch attack. He is also used to build up stats to Baton Pass to Utaro using Agility.
In the Emerald arc, Aibo uses Gold's billiard cue to power up Exbo's attack on Guile Hideout.
In the HeartGold & SoulSilver arc, Aibo evolved into an Ambipom, and no longer used Gold's billiard cue when Exbo used Blast Burn. Even in its evolved state, it was almost subdued from a single Hyper Voice attack from Arceus with the rest of Gold's Pokémon.
