Exbo (Japanese: バクたろう Baktaro), known as Explotaro in Chuang Yi's translations, was one of the Pokémon that Gold has received in the Pokémon Adventures manga.
History
Gold, Silver & Crystal arc
As a Cyndaquil, it partnered up with Gold to fight Silver when he stole Professor Elm's Totodile, since Exbo wanted to reunite with its friend. Gold kept it afterwards and gave it the nickname "Exbo" ("Explotaro" in the Chuang Yi translation) because the flames on his back are as explosive as his hair.
Exbo evolved into a Quilava at the Goldenrod Daycare Center when Gold had to battle several strong Pokémon there thinking it was training, but was really training for the Pokémon in the Daycare. While Gold initially did not think the job was so great, Exbo's evolution changed his mind.
It joined its two comrades who had also evolved after its owner and Silver had recovered from their defeat at the Lake of Rage, soon evolved into its final stage, Typhlosion, battling Lugia at the Whirl Islands along with the two other starters, who also evolved. As a Typhlosion, it gave Gold the upper hand while fighting the Masked Man at the end of the GSC arc while Sunbo fueled its flames with its Sunny Day move.
Emerald arc
Around the end of the Emerald arc, it is shown to have learned Blast Burn, which it used against Guile Hideout, its power notable that it was the only attack Guile's deflector sword could not repel, when even the attacks of five Frontier Brains were nullified by it. Then, once the 5 petrified Pokédex Holders were freed, Exbo teamed up with the 8 other starters and delivered a combined attack along with Red's Pika, Yellow's Chuchu, and Gold's Pichu.
HeartGold & SoulSilver arc
In HeartGold & SoulSilver arc, it along with the rest of the team battle a wild Arceus and uses its powerful Blast Burn move right away, but to little effect, as a single Hyper Voice attack startles it and its teammates greatly.
