Ash's Sceptile (Japanese: サトシのジュカイン Satoshi's Jukain) was the second Pokémon caught by Ash Ketchum in the Hoenn region. His voice actor in Japanese is 上田祐司 Yūji Ueda and his English voice actor is Bill Rogers. As a Treecko, he was voiced by Dan Green in English. As a Grovyle, he was voiced by Darren Dunstan (4Kids dub) and by Bill Rogers (TPCi dub) in English.
History
Hoenn
Treecko was caught in the episode Tree's a Crowd! after Ash helped him in trying to save his old tree home; this event was followed by a battle with Ash's Pikachu, and Ash caught him as a result of that battle. Ash has used Treecko in a number of battles since its capture including the gym battles against Roxanne and Brawly.
Treecko evolved into Grovyle in the episode Exploud and Clear in the middle of a battle against Guy's Loudred. Ash has used Grovyle in almost every gym battle since its evolution. The most notable of these was his battle against Norman in Balance of Power, where it battled Norman's Slaking. It was also used in the Ever Grande Conference as well as the battle against the Frontier Brain, Greta.
Kanto Battle Frontier
It evolved into Sceptile in Odd Pokémon Out when its love, Nurse Joy's Meganium, was attacked by Team Rocket. Until Cutting The Ties That Bind, Sceptile lost his ability to use attacks due to a broken heart. He regained his ability to use attacks in the above-mentioned episode to save Ash from Team Rocket, with the use of Leaf Blade. It then used Quick Attack to save him and Bullet Seed to soften the fall. It was used in Ash's battle against Spenser in the following episode, Ka Boom With A View, where it won Ash the Spirit Symbol after learning a new move, SolarBeam.
Sceptile has since become one of Ash's most powerful Pokémon, even strong enough to hold its own in battle against certain legendary Pokémon. It is exceptionally fast and a good jumper. Sceptile also has a habit of keeping a twig in his mouth. He is also a bit of a loner, and can often be seen sitting alone on the branch of a tree, resting or looking at the sky. Both of these habits were carried over from when Sceptile was a Treecko. Despite this, Sceptile is a competitive battler, almost never turning down a fight. Sceptile was one of the five Pokémon that Ash took with him on his journey to the Battle Frontier.
In Once More With Reeling it fought in the Terracotta Contest final against May's Blaziken. The battle resulted in a tie where both May and Ash won the ribbon. This is the most recent battle Sceptile has fought under Ash's command.
Ash left Sceptile at Professor Oak's lab before setting off to Sinnoh.
Sinnoh
Ash used Sceptile, battling against Takuto in the semi-finals of the Suzuran Conference in DP189. It managed to use several attacks against Takuto's Darkrai, including a newly-revealed attack, Leaf Storm, putting up an good fight against the legendary Pokémon. Although Darkrai uses Dark Void on it, it managed to snap out of it immediately, shocking Takuto. It then managed to defeat Takuto's Darkrai with a powerful Leaf Blade attack. Although it battled hard it was unable to defeat Takuto's next Pokémon, Latios, becoming Ash's fourth Pokémon to fall in his semi-final battle against Takuto.

Trivia
- Sceptile keeping a twig in his mouth is much like a 番長 banchō, a juvenile gang leader, a character type that was common in manga and anime in the sixties and early seventies.
- Sceptile has learned a new Grass-type move in each of its evolutions: Bullet Seed as Treecko, Leaf Blade as Grovyle, and SolarBeam as Sceptile. All of these moves have been used recently.
- Sceptile has been referred to as male in episodes such as Tree's a Crowd and Odd Pokémon Out, but only in the English dub. However, a female Treecko in Having a Wailord of a Time was shown to have a crush on Ash's Treecko, which may confirm its gender in other languages.
- It took 59 episodes for Treecko to evolve into a Grovyle. Incidentally, the amount of episodes to evolve again was the reversed digits; 95.
- Sceptile is Ash's first fully evolved Grass-type starter.
- Sceptile is the third of Ash's Pokémon to defeat a legendary Pokémon, defeating Takuto's Darkrai in DP189. Charizard and Pikachu were the other two, defeating Noland's Articuno and Brandon's Regice respectively.
- However, Sceptile did not defeat Darkrai completely on his own, as it was already weakened by Ash's Heracross and Gible.
- Sceptile is the fourth of the main character's Pokémon to defeat a legendary Pokémon: in addition to Ash's battles against Noland's Articuno and Brandon's Regice, Dawn's Buneary defeated a Phione.
- Sceptile is the third of Ash's Pokémon to show interest in a Pokémon of a different species (a Meganium) The first was Totodile who has shown interest in an Azumarill and a Quagsire, and the second was Corphish who has shown interest in a Mawile. Of those Corphish was the only one who showed interest in a Pokémon that was not the same type.
- May's Venusaur can be seen as a parallel to Sceptile, as both are the final form Grass-type starter Pokémon from their owner's Generation III co-star's home region.
- Sceptile can be seen as a parallel to May's Blaziken.
- Both are final forms of Hoenn starters.
- Both reached their forms in the Battle Frontier saga.
- Both were used in the Terracotta Contest, where they battled each other and resulted in a tie.
