Trivia

  • Tamagetake is the third Pokémon to resemble a Poké Ball, the others being Voltorb, and Electrode.
    • However, unlike the others, it only has a Poké Ball design on it, instead of being in the shape of one.
  • Tamagetake shares its species with Paras, Parasect, Shroomish, and Breloom. They are all known as Mushroom Pokémon.

Origin

It appears to be based on a mushroom species called Fly Amanita or Agaricus. This is also supported by the fact that this mushroom is considered poisonous and Tamagetake being part Poison. The cap seems to be based off the front of a Poké Ball.

Name origin

Part of the its name may be derived from take, mushroom and the other tama sphere, referencing its cap resembling a Poké Ball. Tamageta means astonished. Shiitake might be a contender as well for the name origin, the Pokémon resembling that of an Agaricus genus button mushroom, or shiitake.
