Faced with Steelix Determination! (Japanese: 爆走ハガネール!ビッパの村を守れ!! Roaring Haganeil! Protect the Bippa Village!!) is the 23rd episode of the Diamond & Pearl series, and the 489th episode of the Pokémon anime. It first aired in Japan on March 15, 2007 and in the United States on July 12, 2007.
Synopsis
The episode starts off with Jessie, James and Meowth digging some holes into the ground. Halfway, when they were digging a particular hole, they hit something hard. It turns out to be a Steelix, and the shovels which they were using were stuck on the Steelix's head. While they were running for it, Ash, Brock and Dawn were heading in the direction Team Rocket was running. Suddenly, they heard a cry of a Bidoof. Brock took out a potion to heal the Bidoof, and put a plaster on its wound. As they were about to turn into a junction into the forest, Team Rocket appeared, with Meowth in front. While they were talking about catching Ash's Pikachu, the Steelix appeared. When it was charging a Hyper Beam, they started running. While they were running, they spotted a gap in the rocks.
The gap in the rock was an opening to a Bidoof village. The Bidoof which Brock healed belonged to the Bidoof village. Jessie and James soon arrived at the Bidoof village. They hid in a small bush with a hole, because by then the Steelix was breaking in and so Ash, Brock, Dawn and Meowth cut down trees and shifted rocks to build a barricade against the Steelix. Jessie and James refused to help, as they were "very tired", and fell asleep.
Soon, the Steelix finally broke in. But by this time, they had a plan: Use Meowth to lure the Steelix, then pull off the shovels on its head. Staravia managed to pull off one, while his Pikachu also managed to pull off one. When the Steelix was about to fall into a pool of water, some Bidoof managed to pull the last shovel out.
The episode ends with Ash and his friends leaving the Bidoof village.
