Slowpoke (Japanese: ヤドン Yadon) is a Water/Psychic-type Pokémon. It first appeared in the Generation I games.
Slowpoke comes with one of two Abilities: Oblivious, which prevents attraction; or Own Tempo, which prevents confusion.
Slowpoke can evolve into one of two Pokémon: into Slowbro starting at Level 37; or into Slowking via link trade while holding a King's Rock.

In the anime
Slowpoke's first appearance was a brief one in Island of the Giant Pokémon. Ash's Pokémon asked it for help, but it didn't respond. It evolved into a Slowbro at the very end of the episode.
Slowpoke's first major role was in The Evolution Solution. Ash and co. asked for the help of Professor Westwood to help figure out why Slowpoke only evolved into Slowbro when a Shellder clamped on its tail (a question that was giving Professor Oak a headache). Westwood's Slowpoke evolved when a Shellder that Jessie caught clamped on to the Dopey Pokémon's tail.
A Shadow of a Drought revealed that Azalea Town considers Slowpoke sacred due to legends claiming that Slowpoke's yawning can summon rain.
Enlighten Up introduced practioners of a religion similar to Buddhism that see Slowpoke's empty head as a sign of enlightenment and worship by meditating along with Slowpoke and Slowbro.
A group of Slowpoke were trying to reach a King's Rock to evolve to Slowking in A Crowning Achievement. One finally succeeded at the end.
Other appearances
Super Smash Brothers Melee
Slowpoke is a Pokéfloat. It initially has its tail curled towards its body but the tail lazily becomes straight and fighting moves there until Wooper appears.

Trivia
Slowpoke's original English name was "Slowmo".
Origin
Slowpoke vaguely resembles a hippopotomus.
Name origin
A slowpoke is simply a term for someone who is slow. The yado in Yadon may be from 宿借り yadokari, hermit crab. Alternatively, it may also be derived from 宿主 yadonushi, (parasitic) host. Also, 鈍感 donkan means thickheaded or stolid.
In other languages
- German: Flegmon
- French: Ramoloss - This is probably from ramolli meaning soft, and molosse meaning big dog.
- Korean: 야돈 Yadon
