I noticed that, in the time-specific events section, while it mentions things that ''always'' occur at certain times (like Espeon/Umbreon evolution) it makes no mention of things that occur differently each day each day (like Swarms, or Lottery Ticket numbers) nor of things that ''may'' happen (like the appearance of the Blend Master in Emerald). This may just be a problem with my used Crystal game I bought, but the time only passes while the game is on. My Silver version time is the same as real world time. Evolution times

Listings for evolutions use the terms "Day" and "Night" and link to this page, but those terms are used in a different context to the more common times of day this article deals with, leading to the incorrect information being given.

While there's a small mention of this with Eevee's evolutions (making it sound like the times given are specific to eevee), hidden in a rather irrelevant paragraph, the rest of the article is rather misleading when looking for an explantion of the terms.

Perhaps the evolutionary times should be put in their own section to make this clearer and less confusing? Would also be good then if the links for evolutions be updated to jump straight to that section. --Zeal T / C 09:17, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Regarding times at which pokemon can be found in the wild

Changing DS Time

I remember hearing that in some games that use the DS's internal clock, changing the time on it will postpone all time based functions for 24 hours in the game. Is this also the case in Fourth generation pokémon games, or can one change the time with impunity? Darien Shields 10:29, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Nope, that's how it is. You can't change the time without consequences. Although I don't know if that applies if you use your game with a different DS with different time settings... --AndyPKMN 12:29, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

I wonder how the game actually detects this, because unless the DS cart has an actively ticking clock (or the system actually tells it that the clock was recently changed), then the game has no mechanism to distinguish between a user who actually changed their system clock, versus a user who simply hasn't played their game for awhile. For example, if you play the game Monday, then on Thursday you reset your DS clock to Tuesday and play the game again, the apparent system clock says that only 24 hours have passed since you saved and quit the game Monday (even though in reality, it was three days). It's mostly when you change your system time back that the game notices, because the clock reads something earlier than your last save point.

For example, in White version one evening I set my clock back a few hours (when I hadn't actually played the game in two days) so I could catch the Royal Unova. It worked, however the next evening (after resetting the system clock) I was given the 24 hour lockout as the crew said the Royal Unova wasn't sailing that day. --Stratelier 14:54, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

PS - Now this is interesting ... after adjusting my DS clock back a few hours to see if I could catch Whitney in HeartGold (to no such luck), when I start up my Pokemon White version (which I haven't played in almost a week) I am told to wait until tomorrow before uploading a Pokemon to the PGL (i.e: "Game Sync has run out of energy"). There's no way that Pokemon White could've known without an internal clock, or the DS system telling it. --Stratelier 03:47, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

You can disregard all my speculation up to this point because apparently I overlooked one tiny detail: Changing your DS clock resets the "seconds" part of system time to zero. This makes it impossible to reset your system time "back" to precisely what it was before changing (it can be off by up to 60 seconds), thus the game will always notice if the clock has been changed. --Stratelier 15:08, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Making a new setion for "Time specific events"

Would anyone object to me adding the contents of my Sandbox into this article? This deals with events that occur at specific times but not on specific days and are therefore missed off the days of the week article. I would plan to add this to the bottom of the page below Generation IV. If you do object please elaborate (either to say the whole concept is pointless or that it needs to be improved before it could be added). Clair

This page says Clair can be registered between 6am and 10pm, but the Pokégear page says 6am to 10pm. I'm changing this page on the assumption that the latter's more likely. If anyone can comfirm otherwise, feel free to change it and the other page. --Oatzy 20:16, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Displaying the current time in the article

It seems to me that the function that's supposed to display the current time and date (e.g. morning, Sunday) for the different generations in the last sentence of the beginning is broken. At the moment, I'm getting "In Generation II games set to UTC time, it is currently on Sunday, while in Generation IV games set to UTC time, it is currently on Sunday.", but I'm pretty sure that's not how it's supposed to work. Does this clock change based on the user's preferences? I think it would be very helpful if it did. That way, you would always know the current time in your own game, because morning, day, and night, are not necessarily the same as the real world.^_^ 12:45, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

Changing DS clock

I'm not sure if there is a policy against noting hacks / abuses / cheats, but here are some things which might be integrated into this article (Gen IV section):

  • Daily events (swarms, Jubilife lottery, vocabulary at Snowpoint, massages (both), berry-giving NPCs (all), Sunyshore ribbon girl, seal store refresh) all reset if the DS clock is set to 23:59 and the hour rolls over while the game is on.
  • Nocturnal pokemon can be found during any time of the (our time) day by changing the DS's clock to late (and vice versa)
    • Same works for police officers

I have not found a way to manipulate the time for berry growth, though. I don't think they are triggered by the turn of a day. In fact I believe the berry plants die if the DS clock is reset too much. -- Pokey 10:24, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

If you begin a battle in the afternoon, close your DS lid then resume the battle in the evening, will throwing a Dusk Ball be effective? Basically, when throwing a Dusk Ball does it perform a time check directly from the DS's clock or does it rely on what the time was when the battle started?--Hasfusel 14:06, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

  • No, the game will not change time mid-battle. When you start a battle, the time is set then and there and won't change until the battle ends. Afterward the time sets itself to the current time of day. I have only done this in platinum but, it should work the same way for all five games. Prof. Sternberg 00:22, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Gen IV Day-change Movie clip

I just noticed that the times shown on the Sinnoh Time-Of-Day movie clip are not consistent with the times stated above. In the clip one of the time lapses shows "8:00 am - 11:59 am" for one of the transitions. But in the segment under Generation II it says that Morning turns to day at 10:00 am. So either there is no transition between Morning and day or someone goofed. What do you guys think? Prof. Sternberg 00:42, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Misty's Number

I think there's a mistake in the HG/SS phone number secion. It says that you can get Misty's number after capturing Suicune, but I got her number before I'd even seen Suicune. I don't think capturing it is required. Fadm tyler 14:41, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Time Specific Events: Generation III

"The tides in Shoal Cave depend on the time of day. It is low tide from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and 9:00 pm to 3:00 am, and high tide from 3:00 pm to 9:00 am and 3:00 am to 9:00 pm."


The times for high tide are incorrect, someone put it so it overlaps with low tide, which is impossible. High tide should be from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm and 3:00 am to 9:00 am. Anyways I can't edit the page, so will someone who can fix it please, thanks. Ash1Ketchum4 18:21, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

RTC time in Generation III?

Does anyone know where (offsets) do the GBA game cartridges save the clock data? I know VBA does save the RTC data in a different offset, but haven't found it yet. hfc2X 19:11, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

Blue's phone number in HGSS

DS Clock (And an interesting feature)

I've changed my DS' clock time, after realising I had set it wrong after Daylight Saving Time began (I know, this late?), and for some reason, I haven't been able to activate any of the time-specific events on SoulSilver. Is this the 24-hour lockout thing people have been talking about?

Also, I've found that the DS stores data for dates from as early as the 1st of January, 2000, and as late as the 31st of December 2099. This can be utilised to catch Pokemon, especially those from Hoenn, Sinnoh and Unova on dates where they wouldn't have even been considered, or from far in the future :D

Daylight Saving Time

Do international versions of Gold, Silver, and Crystal utilize the Daylight Saving Time function? I know many countries no longer use DST or never used it to begin with, so was it a localized function? - poikins 20:44, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

Gen VI

Gen VI's time system seems to be:

  • Morning: 4:00 AM - 9:59 AM (need to check this)
  • Day: 10:00 AM (need to check this) - 8:59 PM
  • Night - 9:00 PM - 3:59 AM

For time-based evolutions, here's what Gen VI considers day and night: User:SnorlaxMonster/Sandbox#Day-night for evolutions. That table should probably go in the article somewhere, but I don't know where. --SnorlaxMonster 15:25, 30 December 2013 (UTC)

Since the Methods of evolution page does link to this page without ever saying what the times are, the page certainly should have something about time-based evolutions. So I added a whole section, "Time-based evolutions", under "Time-specific events" and made it a catchall for every Generation. And I simply lifted the table that SnorlaxMonster linked...
