Jessie's Wobbuffet (Japanese: ムサシのソーナンス Musashi's Sonans) was the only Pokémon caught by Jessie of Team Rocket during her travels through Johto. His voice actor in Japanese is 上田 祐司 Yūji Ueda, and his English voice actress is Kayzie Rogers.
Jessie obtained Wobbuffet in the episode Tricks of the Trade after accidentally trading her Lickitung for him. Wobbuffet's previous trainer was a boy named Benny who had trained Wobbuffet hard but wanted to try training a new Pokémon.
Wobbuffet occasionally battles, but since he cannot initiate attacks, he must wait to be attacked first. This comes in handy, since Team Rocket often finds itself on the receiving end of powerful Pokémon attacks. He serves as more of a comic effect character, emerging from his Poké Ball frequently and often at inappropriate times, effectively annoying Jessie. Since the episode Tunnel Vision, Wobbuffet has his place in the Team Rocket motto, right after Meowth. His Japanese name is fitting for his role, as its name (Sōnansu) means "It is so," equivalent to Meowth's "That's right!" This also serves as a joke when he shouts his name after Team Rocket comes up with an idea or plan- it is as if he is agreeing with them. Another joke involving his Japanese name is his interactions with his Baby form, Wynaut. Wynaut's name in Japanese, Sōnano, means "really?", so a Sonans-Sonano conversation can understandably go on for an extended period of time.
Jessie often commands Wobbuffet to use Counter to reflect back most attacks. Occasionally, it also sometimes uses Mirror Coat for mainly countering powerful Special based moves such as Blizzard.
Although Jessie often seems annoyed with Wobbuffet, she truly cares for him. This is showcased in a handful of episodes, including Who What When Where Wynaut, in which Wobbuffet temporarily went missing. Jessie was very worried and desperately went searching for him on the island. Likewise, Wobbuffet seems to care for her deeply, although his loyalty has sometimes been in question.
Episodes primarily featuring Wobbuffet are Wobbu-Palooza, in which Ash, his friends, and Team Rocket came across a festival honoring Wobbuffet and Jessie's Wobbuffet saved the day, and The Wayward Wobbuffet, in which Wobbuffet became separated from Jessie and went on an action-packed adventure. Team Rocket have also had various vehicles and robots based on him.
In Fear Factor Phony, Wobbuffet fell in love with a Kirlia, giving her a flower and rescuing her from the rest of Team Rocket.
In Harley Rides Again. Wobbuffet fell out out the balloon and crashed into the contest stage while Harley was acting, making everyone extremely shocked.

Trivia
- Wobbuffet was the first, and for a while, only (besides Ash's Buizel and Dawn's Aipom) traded Pokémon to become an important part of the main cast. This excludes Ash's Raticate which he only had for one episode.
- For DP024, Professor Oak's lecture is about Jessie's Wobbuffet. He writes this Pokémon senryū about it: きがつけば なのりもやってる ソーナンス
- Since Wobbuffet doesn't have lipstick, many cite this as proof that it is indeed male. However, because all Wobbuffet prior to Generation IV lacked lipstick, this is not concrete proof.
- Until Duplica pointed it out, Wobbuffet always used Counter to deflect attacks. Although this should only work against physical attacks, it actually worked against any.
