Spikes is a non-damaging Ground-type move introduced in Generation II. It can be increased twice by using Spikes again (up to two times) after the initial Spikes was used. The damage inflicted by switching out will not occur on Flying types or Pokémon with Levitate. In a double battle, Spikes affects all Pokémon in play. The only way to get rid of Spikes is to use Rapid Spin.
