Visquez

(Japanese: ビスケス Visquez) as the Vermilion City Gym Leader in the absence of Lt. Surge. She gives the Thunder Badge to Trainers who defeat her.

In the anime

In the anime, Visquez is a character who appeared in JN018. She is the first Trainer that Ash faces as soon as he signs up for the World Coronation Series, in this episode, it's revealed that she assumed the position of Gym Leader, after Lt. Surge decides to go on his own journey.

Visquez was first seen battling a Trainer and his Hypno with her Raichu, eventually emerging victorious. While cleaning up the mess left by the battle, she received word that a challenger was coming to battle her for the World Coronation Series, who turned out to be Ash. Visquez remembered Ash from his battle against Lt. Surge, and they had a two-on-two battle, with Visquez using her Raichu and Electrode against Ash's Pikachu and Gengar. The battle ended in Visquez's loss, causing her rank to go down.

Finally, she says goodbye to Ash and Goh, and promises to tell Lt. Surge about the battle they had and how Ash has evolved as a Trainer since then.

Character

Although tough, Visquez encourages all the Trainers she faces to do their best in battle. Even though she is a replacement Gym leader, Visquez is well respected in Vermilion City and for her disciples at the Gym.

Her strategies in battle are attacks based on power and brute force, many of which damage your own Pokémon like Volt Tackle or the ability of your Electrode and looking for ways to compensate for your Pokémon's weaknesses using move such as Magnet Rise, so that your Pokémon can deal with the Ground type.

Raichu is Visquez's first known Pokémon. It was first seen battling a Trainer's Hypno and defeated it with Volt Tackle. Afterwards, Raichu was seen lifting a dumbbell alongside Visquez when they received word of a Trainer coming to challenge them.

Raichu was the first Pokémon used in Visquez's battle against Ash, where it went up against Pikachu before Pikachu was recalled in favor of Gengar. After a hard-fought battle, Raichu was defeated.

Visquez revealed that Raichu was trained by Lt. Surge himself. Like his trainer, Raichu is a born fighter and quite impatient to go into battle.

Raichu's known moves are Volt Tackle, Thunderbolt, and Reflect.

Electrode
Visquez's Electrode
Debut JN018

Japanese Rikako Aikawa

Electrode is Visquez‘s second known Pokémon and referred as her "Squadron's Ultimate Lethal Weapon". It was first used to battle Ash's Gengar and was able to defeat it before going up against Pikachu. Despite Electrode's great speed, Pikachu managed to defeat it. Electrode attempted to take Pikachu down with it, only for Pikachu to protect himself, thus leading to only Electrode going down and causing Visquez to lose the match.

Electrode's known moves are Magnet Rise, Discharge, and Rollout, and its Ability is Aftermath.

Trivia

  • Visquez's name and design may be a reference to the character of Private Jenette Vasquez from the 1986 sci-fi action film Aliens.
  • Similar to Seiya, Visquez's hair has a shape that refers to her type specialty, in this case a wire on a device socket.
