Rollout (Japanese: ころがる Roll) is a damage-dealing Rock-type move introduced in Generation II. It was TM04 in Generation II.

Effect

Rollout inflicts damage over five turns, doubling in power for each consecutive hit; the power will reset after five turns or if Rollout is interrupted. It is a consecutively executed move. Rollout's power is doubled in addition if the user had previously used Defense Curl.

In Generation VII, or Generation VIII prior to version 1.3.1 of Pokémon Sword and Shield, hitting a Mimikyu in Disguised Form or Eiscue in Ice Face form with Rollout or Ice Ball produces the Rollout storage glitch.

Rollout can be used as the second move of a Pokémon Contest combination, with the user gaining 3 bonus appeal points if Defense Curl or Harden was used in the previous turn. It is also a Contest Spectacular combination, with the user gaining an extra three appeal points if Defense Curl was used in the prior turn.

Generation VIII

Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Rollout inflicts damage and causes the user to become fixated on using the move.

In other games

Super Smash Bros. series

Rollout is Jigglypuff's neutral special from Super Smash Bros. Melee onwards. The longer the special button is held down before being released, the stronger and faster this move will be, though being harder to control.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series

Rollout deals damage, hitting the target up to 5 times per use. The move will end early as soon as a single hit misses. In the Rescue Team series, Rollout's damage is multiplied by 1.5×, 2×, 2.5×, and finally 3× for each successive hit. In the Explorers series, the damage increases only by 0.1× for each successive hit. Rollout's base critical hit rate is lower than normal (2% in the Rescue Team, Explorers, and Adventure Squad series).

From Gates to Infinity onward, Rollout no longer increases in power for each successive hit, but will double in power the first time it is used successfully if Defense Curl had been used by the user on the same floor.

Pokémon UNITE

In Pokémon UNITE, Rollout is Wigglytuff's second move. It is obtained by evolving from Jigglypuff at level 4 and upgrading Defense Curl into it instead of Sing. The user gains a shield for 25% max HP and rolls forward, damaging and throwing enemies hit in the air for .5s. Hitting an obstacle while rolling will change the direction the user is moving up to 5 times and reset the cooldown of Pound, Double Slap, or Dazzling Gleam. At level 12, the amount of time enemies are thrown in the air is increased by .3s.

Description

Trivia

  • Rollout is the only Rock-type Cute move.
  • Rollout was one of the first Generation II moves introduced. It was shown along with the third Generation II Pokémon introduced, Donphan, when Raymond used it in the first movie.
  • If a Pokémon levels up mid-battle and a new move is learned in place of Rollout while it is still being used, the Pokémon will continue using Rollout in spite of having forgotten it.
