Fennekin (Japanese: フォッコ Fokko) is a Fire-type Pokémon introduced in Generation VI.
It evolves into Braixen starting at level 16, which evolves into Delphox starting at level 36.
Along with Chespin and Froakie, Fennekin is one of three starter Pokémon of Kalos available at the beginning of Pokémon X and Y.
Along with Chespin, Froakie, Xerneas, and Yveltal, it was the first Generation VI Pokémon to be revealed to the public on January 8, 2013, as part of the Pokémon Direct broadcast.
Biology
Fennekin is a small, quadrupedal fox-like Pokémon. It is covered in pale yellow fur that is longer on its haunches. It has a white muzzle with longer fur on its cheeks, large, dark orange eyes, and a pointed, black nose. When its mouth is open, two pointed teeth can be seen in its upper jaw. Tufts of dark orange fur cover the interior of its large ears. Fennekin also has small paws with no visible toes and slim legs. Its tail is fluffy with a dark orange tip.
Hot air is vented from Fennekin's ears, reaching temperatures of over 390 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). It uses this ability to intimidate opponents. Fennekin chews on twigs, which fill it with energy. It can be temperamental, but it tries to do its best for its Trainer.[1]

Major appearances
Serena's Fennekin debuted at the end of A Battle of Aerial Mobility! as one of the three starter Pokémon Serena could choose from Professor Sycamore. In the following episode, Serena chose the Fox Pokémon as her starter. Fennekin evolved into a Braixen in Battling with Elegance and a Big Smile! whilst battling Aria's Delphox and Aromatisse with Pancham.
A Fennekin appeared in A PokéVision of Things to Come!, under the ownership of Aria. She was revealed to have evolved into a Braixen sometime before Day Three Blockbusters!, which then evolved into a Delphox before Battling with Elegance and a Big Smile!.
Other
A Mirror World Fennekin appeared in The Cave of Mirrors!, under the ownership of Mirror Serena. Before the events of the episode, it battled Mirror Ash's Froakie and won. It was later used again in battle, this time against the Ash of the regular world and his Froakie, and it was defeated. Later, Mirror Serena sent her out to break the glass cages in which Team Rocket had captured both Pikachu.

A starter Pokémon Fennekin appeared in a flashback in Cloudy Fate, Bright Future!.
A Fennekin appeared alongside a Chespin and Froakie in the opening sequence of Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel, during which all three starter Pokémon were seen evolving into their first and then final evolved forms.
A Fennekin appeared in Till We Compete Again!, where it was a starter Pokémon that was offered as a choice for a Youngster to choose from.
A Fennekin appeared during a flashback in The Legend of X, Y, and Z!.
Four Trainers' Fennekin appeared in A Crowning Moment of Truth!, where they were among the Pokémon attending the Wela Fire Festival.
A Trainer's Fennekin appeared in A Festival Reunion!.

In PS549, Professor Sycamore gave Trevor three starter Pokémon so that X might choose one and stop his shut-in behavior. Before she could even get to X, a battle between Xerneas and Yveltal caused Fennekin and her Pokédex to be sent flying and go missing. She was later revealed to have been found by Team Flare and was put in a box with other Pokémon from Vaniville Town, taken by Malva, who crushed the unneeded Pokédex under her foot. While under Malva's care for an unknown amount of time, she evolved into Braixen.

When released from a Poké Ball, Fennekin shoots fireballs with Incinerate. Enemies hit by these fireballs are stunned and will take continuous damage until the fire fades.
Trophy information
NA: This Fire-type Pokémon is one of the first partners in Pokémon X and Y. It enjoys eating twigs, emitting hot air from its ears as it munches. Its Incinerate attack may look like small embers when it starts, but when it hits another fighter, the embers burst into a devastating pillar of flame!
PAL: Want to start your journey with a Fire-type Pokémon? Then Fennekin is for you! It enjoys eating twigs as snacks, and while it's munching on them, hot air pours from its ears. Its Incinerate attack might start off looking like tiny embers, but on impact with another fighter, they'll burst into a giant pillar of flame that just keeps burning.
Fennekin returns as a Poké Ball summon, retaining its behavior from For Nintendo 3DS/Wii U.
It appears as a support Pokémon in a set with Emolga and uses Ember to trap foes in a dome made of fire.

Origin
Fennekin is based on a fox, specifically resembling the fennec fox. It also shares characteristics with kitsune, magical foxes in Japanese folklore that can breathe fire and are associated with witchcraft.
Name origin
Fennekin may be a combination of fennec and kindle and/or the suffix -kin.
Fokko may be a combination of fox, fuoco (Italian for fire), 狐 ko (fox), and 子 ko (child).
