Pokémon world locations |
Dotted Hole (Japanese: てんのあな Dotted Hole) is a place only accessible in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. It is located in Ruin Valley on Six Island and is the place where players will get the Sapphire, which, in conjunction with the Ruby, allows Celio's Network Machine to connect to Lanette's PC system in Hoenn, and enables trades with Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, Colosseum, and XD. A Team Rocket scientist, Gideon, will steal it, though, and the player must venture back to Five Island to retrieve it from him. In order to open the door, the player must use Cut in front of it. However, Gideon will stand in front of the door until the player helps Lorelei defeat the three Team Rocket Grunts at Icefall Cave.
Braille translations
Along with the cave within Mt. Ember, this is one of only two locations in the Sevii Islands that has Braille writing, both on the door (from which the area gets its name) and within, which will direct players to the location of the Sapphire.

Trivia
- The message at the bottom floor of the Dotted Hole is possibly a reference to Bill and Celio creating a device that allows trade between FireRed and LeafGreen and Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald by using the Ruby and Sapphire found in the Sevii Islands.
- The pillars and door at the entrance to the Dotted Hole actually have real Braille symbols on them. While the symbols would seemingly be random to someone who knows English Braille (as the symbols on the left pillar, right pillar, and door respectively in English Grade 2 Braille are an A, a closing quotation mark(”), and the word For), in Japanese Braille they're much more obvious: The left pillar is very similar, being the symbol for the A kana (あ); the right pillar's symbol is for the N kana (ん), which is equivalent to "Z" in the English alphabet as the "last" symbol thus mirroring the "A" of the other pillar; and the door's symbol is for the ME kana (め), which is, again, seemingly random.
- Though, it should be noted that the door's mark of six dots is likely not intended to have character meaning, but lore meaning. The area description says the Dotted Hole got its name because of the mark of six dots on the door, so despite the dots being a valid Japanese Braille character, this is likely just a coincidence.
