Pre series

Young Diantha

As revealed in Summer of Discovery!, Diantha participated at the Pokémon Summer Camp when she was younger and her Gardevoir was a Ralts, as she worked together with two other young Trainers. During the days that they participated, Diantha and her friends managed to enter the Pokémon Summer Camp Hall of Fame, which served as an inspiration to the other Trainers who participated in this event.

Years later, she starred in a movie titled "My Sweet, Sweet Lady". This film was a huge box office success and established Diantha as a renowned actress in the region. Over the years, Diantha and her Ralts' bond grew stronger and stronger, as her partner evolved into Kirlia, and then into Gardevoir. One day, during filming of a movie, Diantha ended up getting lost from the film crew, which caused Gardevoir to get out of her own Poké Ball and go in search of her Trainer. From that day on, Diantha and Gardevoir became more united. Eventually, Diantha became the Champion of the Kalos League, which made several Trainers decide to challenge her to battle.

Pokémon the Series: XY

Diantha and Kathi Lee

Diantha debuted in The Bonds of Evolution!, where she was shown having an exhibition battle against Magnus. With her Gardevoir, Diantha had very little trouble in defeating her opponent's Absol where it was shown she could direct her partner through mere eye contact. Ash and his friends later encountered Diantha in disguise, trying to get a piece of chocolate cake from a shop. She agreed to have a battle with Ash, but the battle between Pikachu and Gardevoir was soon interrupted by Team Rocket, who caught the Embrace Pokémon and took it away. With the guidance of Diantha's Key Stone, Ash and his friends were able to find Team Rocket. Diantha then Mega Evolved her Gardevoir into Mega Gardevoir, easily breaking out of its confinement and sending the Rocket trio blasting off again.

In the beginning of Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction, Diantha was battling Wikstrom. Despite the type disadvantage, Diantha and Gardevoir were able to beat Wikstrom and his Mega Scizor without much difficulty.

She also appeared in a flashback in Garchomp's Mega Bond!.

Diantha battling Ash

In Championing a Research Battle!, Diantha spoke with Olympia about the threat that Kalos was to face in the future, during which Olympia showed her a vision of Zygarde. When Olympia mentioned Ash and his friends, Diantha decided to track them down and let them know what she had heard, eventually meeting them in the middle of a training session. When she was informed about the mystical power of Ash and Greninja, she requested to battle Ash again. Diantha and Gardevoir initially held the upper hand, but as the battle continued Ash and Greninja (which eventually transformed into Ash-Greninja, to Diantha's shock) kept doing better. Diantha eventually decided to get serious and Mega Evolve her Gardevoir. Ash and Greninja, however, managed to perfect their transformation and knocked Gardevoir off its feet. But before the battle could continue, Ash and Greninja both passed out. Team Rocket then tried to get their hands on a weakened Gardevoir, but Diantha easily sent them blasting off again. After thanking Gardevoir for its efforts and making sure Ash and Greninja were okay, Diantha left, but could not help but question the nature of Greninja's transformation and the role Ash and his friends were to play.

Diantha made further appearances since A League of His Own!, where she stood in the middle of the Lumiose Conference's stadium and welcomed the participants of the Conference and soon afterward, Diantha joined Professor Sycamore to watch the first battles of the competition.

In Analysis Versus Passion! and A Riveting Rivalry!, she watched Ash's and Sawyer's battle in the semifinal round. In Kalos League Passion with a Certain Flare!, she was watching, along with Professor Sycamore again, as Ash and Alain each walked towards their respective sides of the battlefield in the Lumiose Conference's stadium, for the final round of the Conference.

Diantha and the Kalos Gym Leaders against Team Flare

In Finals Not for the Faint-Hearted!, she watched the start of Ash and Alain's battle in the final round of the Lumiose Conference; and in Down to the Fiery Finish!, she watched the battle's conclusion and personally delivered the competition trophy to Alain. While the celebrations were still going on, Diantha and Professor Sycamore witnessed the beginning of Team Flare's attacks on the Kalos region.

In A Towering Takeover!, Diantha took charge of protecting the population of Lumiose City with the police and soon after watched the broadcast and Lysandre declaring his real intentions. In Coming Apart at the Dreams!, while protecting the citizens of Kalos, Diantha instructed Tierno, Sawyer, Shauna, and Trevor to help the population while she went to participate in the main battle.

In Rocking Kalos Defenses!, Diantha joined the Kalos Gym Leaders to form the front line against Giant Rock and in Forming a More Perfect Union!, Diantha teamed up with Steven Stone to buy time for Ash and Alain to manage to destroy the Giant Rock while the Gym Leaders had been defeated. When Alain and Ash managed to thwart Lysandre's plans and rescue Chespie and thus destroy the Giant Rock, Diantha joined the Trainers present to face Lysandre's last actions, who was ultimately defeated by the most powerful attack of Zygarde's combination of powers. At the end of the battle, Diantha joined the others to say goodbye to Squishy and Z2.

She appeared again in a flashback in Till We Compete Again! in a retrospective of Ash's journey through Kalos.

Pokémon Journeys: The Series

Diantha, along with her Gardevoir, appeared on a television screen during a news broadcast about the World Coronation Series in The Future is Now, Thanks to Strategy!.

In Aim For The Eight!, Diantha was revealed to be one of the eight competitors in the Master Class of the World Coronation Series, ranked fifth.

Diantha with Cynthia and Iris
Diantha and Lance

In Curtain Up! Fight the Fights!, Diantha participated in the Masters Tournament, along with the rest of the Masters Eight, reuniting with Ash, Alain, and Steven, and meeting Iris and the other regional Champions. Her first opponent was chosen to be Lance. While waiting for her match, Diantha accepted Iris's request to have a selfie with her and Cynthia. After Leon and Alain's battle had concluded, Diantha headed to the battlefield to start her battle with Lance. In the next episode, she emerged victorious in her battle against the Kanto and Johto Champion, advancing her to the semifinals to face Leon. Following her victory, Diantha was interviewed by a disguised Team Rocket, where Jessie expressed disdain that she did not win the match with her Gourgeist.

In the following episodes, Diantha watched the rest of the quarterfinal matches with the other Masters Eight members.

In It's Champion Time!, Diantha faced Leon in the semifinals of the Masters Tournament. However, despite her best efforts, Diantha was defeated by the Galar Champion. In the next episode, Diantha talked to Cynthia about the Sinnoh Champion's future after the competition ends. Later, Diantha watched Ash's battle against Cynthia along with Leon backstage. In Whittle While You Work!, after the battle's conclusion, Diantha spoke with Cynthia regarding her previous decision and she told the Champion of Kalos that she had reconsidered the idea of retiring from battling.

As of A Flood of Torrential Gains!, Diantha and Cynthia watched Ash's match against Leon. During the battle, Diantha talked to Cynthia about battle strategies. After Ash's victory in Partners in Time!, Diantha and Cynthia celebrate the end of the competition and they decided that they would both want to battle each other in a friendly battle.

Character

Diantha and her Gardevoir

Diantha is a powerful Trainer and well-respected in the Kalos region. Her abilities as a Trainer allow her to easily overpower veteran Trainers like Ash and Magnus, even in conditions where they have a large type advantage. Her affinity with Gardevoir is so great that Diantha can command moves with just gestures and looks, without the need to say actions during battle. In her Masters Tournament campaign, Diantha adopted a more strategic stance, using a variety of support and defense techniques to overcome her opponents' advantages. This guaranteed Diantha a victory over Lance, a finalist from the previous season of the World Coronation Series.

Just like in the games, Diantha is a famous movie star. This made her able to star in major films and blockbusters in the region, but at normal times, Diantha is forced to resort to a disguise to try to lead a more normal life.

Like other Champions in the anime, Diantha possesses a tremendous sense of justice and responsibility, deciding on her own to investigate Ash and his friends' role in actions against Team Flare's plans for the Kalos region.

She is also a fan of desserts, going out of her way to sample the local delicacies whenever she arrives in a new town. Her manager is Kathi Lee, who usually organizes Diantha's schedule and prevents her from straying too far from unscheduled appointments, even against Diantha's reluctance.
